Name Change Advice
Does anyone have any suggestions for me on how to make the name changing process easier? I'm not sure where to begin. Thanks.

Start with DMV
The key is to get at least one piece of legal ID in your new name. All you'll need is your certificate. I think it cost me $3 to process. The ccard companies will do it for you verbally over the phone. If you have an auto loan, don't change the name on the loan until you change the name on your title (which is also easy once you get your name changed on your license.) If you have any other ?s, feel free to email me directly at [email protected]

Thanks Karen, I will probably have a few more questions as I get into doing it. I am going to go to the DMV one morning in Manhattan next week. I saw there is a location at Herald Square that opens at 8:30am. It`s so funny to use a new name, all week I`ve been trying to get the name out when I answer my phone. It made my husband (!) very happy when he called me today.

It's been 9 months and I still haven't tackled that feat. I suppose I should get moving on changing my name but I don't think it will be easy at work. I have lots of clients that know me by my maiden name. I still haven't decided what I should do. Have any of you changed your name for everything but work purposes? Does it cause problems (i.e. credit card and drivers license not matching your business cards, airline reservation, etc.)

Name change and work
The transition was about 90% painfree. Its been a year and just the other day I called someone and said my maiden name because I knew they wouldn't know who I was..... I haven't had a problem at work -

I'm having the same problem, and it's been almost seven months since we got married. I find it really hard to change it, even though I didn't think it would be a big deal for me before the wedding. I've done nothing to change it, and I'm also not quite sure where to start.

I went to the DMV and changed my name. it costs $3.00 and you must go with your marriage license and current driver`s license. The bank required some forms to be filled out by both of us and needed to photocopy the marriage license. Credit cards & utilities will do it over the phone (kinda scary right?). My passport just expired so I am going to renew by mail. They want you to send the original certificate with the proper forms. My mother is a travel agent and she assures me they will send it back but I am a bit wary of sending off the original. I know you can order additional ones but I haven`t looked into it yet. With my job, it is in the works. Social Security office should be next on my list. The hardest part so far is getting use to this new name being MY name. It`s very odd. I did marry into an easier last name though which is great, my maiden name was difficult.Welcome New Vendors
