NWR Vent (update at bottom)

We got a bill from the Short Term Rehab that MIL was in that states we owe X amount of dollars. It doesnt say what its for or if the secondary insurance was billed. Just that we owe the money. I call the billing dept to ask what the bill was for and if the secondary insurance was billed because we never got a statement from them saying they paid anything.
This biatch on the phone tells me that she will get back to me- this was yesterday. So today I call back and she still tells me she cant tell me what the bill was for just that we owe it. WTH??? i am not paying this money and not knowing what its for. I cant understand why they cant just go onto the computer and tell me. After fighting with them and asking to speak to a supervisor I get switched to the operator and get disconnected. I am so pissed right now. i used to do billing and all i had to do was look it up on our system and tell the patient what it was for, if it was denied etc..

Just needed to get this out. I am just so mad.

try doing what I do... the second someone answers:
'listen to me and listen to me good, do not, I repeat DO NOT hang up on me.. I need you to tell me WT F is up with this bill, take a second away from updating your twitter account and answer my question, I've called 7, yes SEVEN times already and keep getting told 'i dont know' and then some as$hole from your company hangs up on me!.. I have no problem paying for this, but I need to know what its for, so either look it up or go find someone that can help me'

9 times out of 10 they get it done... the other 1 out of 10 times, they hang up on me.... so i do it again.

i did end up by speaking to the controller of the place and he said he will find out and get back to me- they BEST get back to me today or I will ride over there after work and believe me they DONT want to see me.

i would call the primary insurance--they should have a record every time they are billed for something...see what the last bill is for and try to figure it out from there!

I agree - call both the primary and secondary insurance carriers and ask for an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Normally the secondary carrier will need the primary carrier's EOB before they can process their end of it. EOB shows what procedures were done by claim code, amount paid by the insurance carrier and what is left as your balance. Get the primary's EOB first and then call the secondary to see if they have the claim in their system. If not, call the facility back and tell them they need to file as well with the secondary.

So I just got a call back- It seems they are ESTIMATING what the insurance comp wont pay.

How in the world can you estimate what the ins comp wont pay? What happens if I overpay? I am sure I wont be getting a check back right away. This is BS! Along with my letters that I am already writing about this facility I think its time ask someone to investigate their billing practices!

This place is nothing but problems!

i'd tell them you're not paying anything until the insurance goes through...
if they have a problem with that, call a lawyer.

No- she told me that we are expected to pay this. I am going to call both Medicare and MIL's secondary ins. comp and get EOB's from them and figure this out myself. they have no clue who they are dealing with and that I did Medical Billing for a Hospital for 6 years.

never in my life have I dealt wit hthis much incompatence. From the staff that took care of MIL and now the billing dept. noone knows what they are doing
