Re: omg is anyone else working downtown?

DH works at the Trade Center and he is SO disgrulted about this whole thing he turns the news off every night because he just can't take it. He was ready to move them out of the park himself.

I understand the demonstration and the 1st Amendment BUT at the same time, I want to know what they actually expect to accomplish but all of this. It's just causing chaos in the city, a city that needs it's law inforcement for terrorists and more critical situations, rather then people who won't walk into a department store and ask for an application.

They are 'occupying' transportation hubs to get the message out. You should look at the locations of these places too.

They need to 'occupy' a desk and get a JOB!!!!

ITA!! It's really getting out of hand, and they smell! and blocking the streets won't shut down the stock exchnage. Don't they know stocks aren't traded on paper anymore??

Re: omg is anyone else working downtown?

it's been a rather peaceful protest for the past 2 months. it's the police's involvement that is causing this disaster.

I will have to disagree. Not saying that all of the protesters are bad but there has been sexual assault, stealing, drugs among themselves - the police had nothing to do with that. In addition, they are hurting the businesses around them and the people who live in the area. Many of my coworkers also have gotten harassed just for wearing a suit to work. Comments such as 'Shame on you!' and 'He's one of them!' DH and myself also got hassled with comments of 'she's only with you for your money.' I don't see how any of that is peaceful or the result of police interference.

I have to agree--my friend works on wall street, and he was also harrassed for wearing a suit--to his job!! That's just nuts. Plus, blocking everyday people from what puts food on the table and pays the rent isn't helpful to anyone.

ITA. My DH was sent to the hospital with a sprained wrist, and his LT with a broken arm and they were just doing their jobs. Someone needs to keep these people from harassing other who are trying to avoid the mess downtown. Not everyone feels the same way they do, and they should respect others views and wishes. Maybe other people want to use the park? Or maybe the sidewalk? Or maybe the subway?

Re: omg is anyone else working downtown?

I got screamed at by some woman in the protest this morning when I was trying to get to my office, she said something about how I was going to get fired like everyone else because I work at the stock exchange. Except that I don't, I work at a non profit that happens to be located downtown. I'm not even wearing a suit, I am wearing khakis and pink flats!
