question for those who've gone to hawaii

hi ladies-

question about maui. is it better to do a sunrise tour on bike (with a guide) or in a car? we are booked for a bike tour, but i've seen some reviews on tripadvisor that say it's scary and not as fun as it seems. we have until thursday to cancel, so are hoping to get some thoughts.

TIA!

Re: question for those who've gone to hawaii

i did a bile ride tour on Big Island and, though it was a bit scary speeding down a volcano, DH and I were really happy we did it ... it was a nice sense of accomplishment at the end. plus, bikes can go where cars cannot so we got to see some things that we wouldn't have seen in a car.

Re: question for those who've gone to hawaii

i did the tour with the bike company...but stayed in the car (does that make sense?)
I dont know how to ride a bike so that was out of the question for me and the company allowed us to go and do the drive. it was great being in the car. you leave at a crazy hour in the middle of the night so you are exhausted i was glad we were able to relax instead of having to ride a bike. the bikers had fun but they all said they were exhausted. plus being in the car allowed us to enjoy the view as we drove back instead of focusing on biking...the path isnt very smooth ta points from what i recall.

we did the bike tour in Maui and thought it was absolutely amazing. It's really not a lot of work because it's all down hill and you stop at different points to take pictures. If at any point you decide you don't want to bike anymore you can hop in the van the van follows you all the way down. HTH

Re: question for those who've gone to hawaii

We did the bike tour...its only scary bc there are cars that come up behind you, but there is a bike lane the entire way down, so as long as you stay in it, you will be fine! It can be fast at some points, as it is all downhill...but def highly recommended to do it by bike! So fun!
