shopping strategy?

what is your general strategy when it comes to shopping for clothes/accessories?

Do you:
1) splurge when you find something you love love love
2) spend big bucks on staples like jeans
3) surf sales / outlets
4) h&m type places
5) combo

With the exception of a couple of things here and there I haven't gone shopping in a while but with the change of seasons almost upon us, thank goodness, I have started getting the itch to buy stuff! Thing is, we are really in crunch mode in terms of saving for a house....

Re: shopping strategy?

I'm a bargain shopper...I'll buy a lot when there's good sales, but other than that I try to steer clear of shopping...I have a huge control issue and I'll end up spending $500 without even blinking an eye and won't have much to show for it!

ETA: we are looking to buy a house soon and I am keeping FAR away from malls and stores!! I'm starting a diet this week so that hopefully by the time warm weather comes around I can fit into all my spring/summer clothes and not have to buy new ones.

Re: shopping strategy?

I am across the board. And like you we are looking to buy a house soon and I have significantly cut back my shopping and spending.

Normally I invest in one pair of high shoes per season (new pumps or boots in winter, new sandals or wedges in summer). Also new pair of ballet flats from j.crew (those are my staples)

This spring I feel like I need new jeans b/c bell bottoms are really trendy now and all I have are skinnies in my closet. (j. brand is my brand of choice, and are less expensive than most designer jeans, but still relatively expensive)

Probably splurge on some accessories from bendels mixed with some cheapies.

H&M, gap, jcrew for a few tops, skirts, and dresses.

The old me would have also purchased 2 new bags but I am trying to resist.
