Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
I honestly believe we won't see anything like 9/11 again in our lifetime.I think that military personnel, if anyone, are the ones who would be targeted.
I think you'll be okay, C.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
As I watched the news last night I had a very sickening feeling.I do think there will be retaliation. I don't think it will ever be by a plane again, but I don't think this will go unanswered. There are psychotic people who followed this man, we can only hope that our intelligence will be able to stop anything before it can happen.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
I definitely have a bit of fear of retaliation. I don't think it would happen very soon, but just the thought of it scares me. That it could happen when we least expect it again...Of course, DH is flying tonight, so I'm nervous, but at the same time, I know he'll be safe.

I am not afraid of being in NY at all- just afraid of flying and being AWAY from NY. I am a big worrier and worry about things that are beyond my control

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
I said the same thing to DH last night about retaliation. DH works at the Trade Center rebuilding tower 4. I just hope the crazies stay home and no one tries to do anything stupid! I also work at a government agency so that scares me a little bit but I'm sure they won't be targeting poop (I work at the DEP Plant). At least the got the SOB!!!!!!

Kieran is flying to Chicago this afternoon and I'd be lying if I said things didn't start crossing my mind. My mom was in the North tower on 9/11 and thankfully made it out unscathed. She also served a tour in Iraq (she isn't in the military - her line of work is closely related). Those experiences changed my life forever. I agree with above posters - we can't live in constant fear BUT I think it is SO amazingly important to be aware of our surroundings 100% of the time and to have a general plan in place in the event of another attack.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
as someone who lived most of her life alongside terrorism I can tell u being afraid not only is pointless but also lets them win, b/c ulitmately terrorism is for the purposes of instilling fear in people and disrupting peaceful livesso by flying and doing everything u do (obv being alert) u actually contribute to all of us winning

I have to agree 100% with you Reg. The best thing we can do is to just go about our lives and do what we're gonna do.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
Yeah, I'm flying on September 10th. September effing 10th.
What better way to pull one over on the US than attack the day before they think you might?? ETA: But actually, I'm more of afraid of an attack everyday, especially on the subway.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
My thoughts are that if he were alive, we'd be in danger of another attack too. Maybe retaliation will happen, but they are terrorists and they might have done something just as awful as any possible retaliation for no reason at all.I do also think it's possible that a lot of people followed him out of fear so retaliation might not be their first thought.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
Yes - I am worried about retaliation, but I think it will be a long time, if ever, before it happens on US soil again. As far as traveling, I'm not canceling my travel plans for October.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
I'm sure there will be some kind of retaliation, in some shape or form, but I'm not going to worry about it or live in fear of it. Just gotta stay alert, be aware of your surroundings, and not be controlled by any anxiety over it.

Re: So now that Bin Laden is dead
Its great the finally got the S o B but he was just one of the many 'cancers' in this war. I was a little nervous last night because I know they'll try to retaliate but when who knows. But if this is the first piece to end this then let's hope it ends as fast as possiblr. But ur can't show them ur fear that will make them know we are weak. Let's celebrate today and pull up our sleeves tomorrow and get back to trying to end this.
