Spinoff to worst wedding gift

I JUST remembered that DH and I did this:

Maybe 6 or 7 years ago, we were invited to our friend's sister's wedding. We weren't super close with her, but DH did a lot of computer work for her and the family. By the time the wedding rolled around, she owed DH at least $300 for his services and she was really giving him the runaround and trying to get out of paying (had nothing to do with the wedding, the bill was months old, the family was annoying like this).
For her wedding gift, I bought her a large lenox frame from the outlets (it was nice, don't get me wrong) and we wrote in her card that DH's computer services were her wedding gift, that her outstanding bill had been satisfied.

Honestly, I don't feel bad, but I do laugh when I think about it.

Anyone do anything like this?

that's so funny.

i don't think i've ever really given a bad wedding gift, but when it came to my evil SIL, we agreed to not exchange wedding gifts (our weddings were 6 weeks apart). she sent us a pre-printed 'thanks for coming to the wedding' card afterwards, and i made sure not to send her a TY card at all... what was i going to say 'thanks for making many aspects of wedding planning a living heIl'?

i wish i would've had something to re-gift back to her for her wedding!

right after college, i had no idea what weddings cost so when i was invited to a friend's wedding, i only gave $100 for two people ... when that couple came to my wedding, they gave $150 so i guess we're even now

My sister did a similar thing for my younger brothers wedding gift....

about 2 years before he got married - my brother 'bought' my sisters car... they agreed on $1200 in installments (and this was cheap - she had another buyer who would have paid at least a grand more...but she did the 'right' thing for family...)

Needless to say, he only paid $400 and then quit paying... She'd ask, he'd say the check was 'in the mail'...

His wedding came around and she made up a little certificate to put in the card that said he should consider the $800 owed on the car satisfied as her gift to him for the wedding.

(and YES - our new SIL flipped...said it was rude of my sister to do that...

My sister told her that rudeness was unpaid debts to family.... yes, they barely speak now..10 years later!)

You know what? I'd probably do the same thing, but maybe pair the 'certificate' with a physical gift, like a keepsake or something.

I'm with your sister! 800 is pretty damn generous and both parties could've been 'even' right there!
