Do you/they celebrate the anniversary of the day you/they came here?DH's Dad does and today we had to have cake about it. I didn't even know what to say... Congrats? Glad you're here? Hello?
Seems weird to me, but I'd like to hear from others before I make my final verdict.

The people next door to my parents do. They came in the summer. they literally throw a party about it. We get invited, good food, music, free booze, pool. I have nothing against it. lol.

I dunno. LOL. But there's cake, which really is a huge plus. So everyone can stand around awkwardly chewing.

You know how Hallmark has a card for every freaking occasion?I bet you that the larger Hallmark stores have a card for this.
If you're near one, pop in and check. It could be really cute.

My parents and I moved here from Israel ... we don't celebrate the day we moved. We became citizens ... we don't celebrate that either.
I find it weird, but kind of cool too

as for the cake, don't write anything on it ... have the bakery draw an american flag or something

I didn't get the cake, MIL did, nothing written on it.
Kris, that would be a very nice thing for me to do, but even though he's kinda nice to me, I don't have warm feelings towards him. He's just there.

As someone that immigrated twice I think I am an expert at this point LOLwe used to celebrate the day we came to Israel I think for the first 2 yrs in a row. we had cake and our neighbors over, who incidentally immigrated with us on the same date (huge coincidence btw)
I dont celebrate the day I moved here I just make sure to tell my close friends 'wow its been X yrs since I moved here, time sure does fly.......'
its a fun thing to celebrate so why not? and dude u got a cake out of it - enjoy!

Re: Those that came to this country or whose parents came to this country...
no. but also i moved here slowly over a period of about a month or two back and forth so there is no set date.maybe after i get my green card dh and i will 'celebrate' each year, but doubtful cuz he already tells me i celebrate too many occasions.
i do know that when i get my green card this summer we'll celebrate, and if i eventually do become a citizen we'll probably celebrate that too.
ILs are from south america - they do not celebrate anything.
