Totally random unrelated to anything question (and its long) but want some opinions! UPDATE IN ORIGINAL POST!

I'm going to pose a scenario, I would like thoughts. That's all I'm saying because I want honest opinions.

Here's your situation:

A girl is a freshman in college. Let's call her Anna. Anna is a freshmen in college, living in the dorm. Anna has a bf of almost 2 years who is a sophomore, his name is David. David goes to the same college and lives in a house with a group of friends, including a new-ish friend named Jack. David and Jack met their freshmen year of college. Anna and Jack get along well, all is good. They actually like to hang out with each other. For example, if Jack is on campus and has some down time he may pop by Anna's dorm to say hi, or if Anna is at Jack and David's house and David is being a jerk (which happens often), or simply is uninterested in paying Anna any attention, Anna often wanders to Jack's room where they talk and just shoot the shyt. Great. It's a long weekend coming up and Anna has made plans to visit friends at another college, about 4 hours away. David is going home. Anna is going to take the train to the nearest town to her friend's school, but that is still about 1.5 hours from the school itself. Well, Jack lives in that town (the one 1.5 hours away from her friend's school) and offers to drive Anna from the train to her friend, and pick her up 3 days later, in total driving out of his way about 3-4 hours to drop Anna off and pick her up. So he does that, its great, she is so thankful, they have good talks in the car. About a month later Anna and David break up. Anna and Jack try to remain friendly, he still pops in to say hi but its hard because Jack lives with David and its a bad breakup. They end up losing touch, end of story.

Hearing this story, would you think that Jack has feelings for Anna, and/or vice versa? What are your opinions?

AND THE REVEAL:

So this was me. I was Anna like 8 years ago, and all this happened. So now the 'Jack' goes to the same med school as my SIL (bro's wife) and she told me she ran into someone I knew, said his name and it just brought this all back. So I was thinking on it because the end is true, we lost touch and nothing ever came of it but I know I definitely had feelings for him at the time but would not cross that step, especially while dating someone (his roommate moreover!) and I remember wondering for a long time how he felt, so I thought it would be interesting to get opinions. It definitely FELT like he liked me but we had that barrier of the boyfriend/roommate.

This was awesome though to hear people's thoughts! I *should* have added that he is definitely NOT gay but while I was around at least he never really had other girls around, and in the over a year that my bf was living with him he ('Jack') paid more attention to me than any other girl we encountered.

Very nostalgic to think back about this time though!! He was such a great guy, I hope he's doing well and is happy!

Being that I have a lot of guy friends I really wouldn't think that Jake has feelings for Anna. They do friendly things and just hang out. Some guys are just that nice to their friends, male or female. Some might disagree with me but knowing my guy friends they would drive me anywhere if I neede to and would come say hi if they were in the area. No biggie.

yup, one of them had feelings for the other...but when anna and david broke up, it probably became more obvious. since they are both pretty young, those feelings usually fizzle out since they aren't mature enough to confront them (i don't mean that they are immature in a bad way, they are just young haha).

I think he has feelings. I wouldn't drive 20 minutes out my way unless I cared about someone.

yup, one of them had feelings for the other...but when anna and david broke up, it probably became more obvious. since they are both pretty young, those feelings usually fizzle out since they aren't mature enough to confront them (i don't mean that they are immature in a bad way, they are just young haha).

I dont know any guy who would bother so much with a girl unless he wanted to get in her pantalones.

i would deff think that jack has feelings for anna.... like it was said i dont think a guy would go all that way (out of his way) and not like her.

Part of me says yes, Jack has feelings, and part of me says no. Part of me suspects that Anna knows this and maybe likes him as well, and while she's figuring that out, well why not get a free (otherwise long and boring) ride with someone you know, KWIM?

Friends do nice things for friends all the time. (Unless you're my friend - see 'Friend Store' post).

But at the same time, he may have wanted to do a nice thing for her in hopes that she'll continue to think he's a nice guy, etc.

Either way, it doesn't sound like either is in the wrong.

No. I feel like this would be the exact scenario if DH and I ever got divorced with our friend Matt. And he doesn't have feelings for me.

I would say Jack has feelings for Anna. Unless he's gay - guys in college don't normally go out of their way for a girl if they're not going to get anything in return.

Now if Anna has any feelings for Jack - that's the better question. Would be difficult to figure out because basically he was someone who paid her attention and would listen to her problems and basically be her rock. She could look at him like a best friend or possible love interest.

I will say that good relationships can grown out of friendships first.

it doesn't necessarily mean that they have feelings for one another BUT while reading it, i certainly thought the last line of the story would be 'anna and jack started dating' ...

that being said, I've had a few guy friends in the past who would've done the same. We arent friends anymore cuz of their jealous girlfriends though. You never win with boy girl friendships.

It depends on Jack.

He seems like a really sweet guy and a good friend to both parties.

If he's a genuine guy and had feelings for Anna, then he kept them to himself for the sake of his friend.

If he's not as genuine/nice, he doesn't like her and is JUST a good friend.
A guy that isn't so genuine would hit on her, if not immediately, then not too long after the breakup.

From your story, it seems like he's a very sweet guy and he probably does/did like her.

ETA: Just read your reveal, with the way your life went, I'm glad nothing came of it because we may never have met you!!!

i have him on facebook, he added me years and years ago but we never really talk. i want to send him a message just to say hi but if there were feelings there is that weird?

i kinda wanna (now that i have the safety of being married) tell him like dude i so had a thing for you, just to get it out in the open ya know?
