Town Suggestions? Western Nassau . . .

DH and I are on the house hunt, as some of you know from LIF, and I think we need to expand our search. We are in Western Nassau now and would like to stay in Western Nassau as much as possible. We made an offer on a house in Malverne, but didn't get it. So, what towns do you like / live in / would suggest? I need a good LIRR line and would even like to be able to walk to the train . . . TIA! Taxes around 10K are ok. We don't want to pay more than that.

Re: Town Suggestions? Western Nassau . . .

Thanks, Cate - I guess I should say that we have been looking:
Malverne (Westwood section)
Valley Stream (Westwood section)
Floral park
Bellerose
NHP
GC
GCS

I just feel like there must be some amazing, perfect town that I am completely overlooking . . .

Re: Lynbrook / RVC: We've looked at some houses in Lynbrook, but I think we are priced out of RVC

Re: Hewlett - I think we are probably priced out of there as well!! We almost bought a co-op in Great Neck but didn't think to look for houses there! Thanks!

Hewlett, Woodmere, Cedarhurst, and Lawrence are all great towns- a little pricey though.

How far east are you willing to go?

Re: Town Suggestions? Western Nassau . . .

Mineola? It's a central hub so you can take almost any train into the city, taxes are under 10K (so I'm told), good school district.

I'm on Redfin now! Thanks - I always forget about this site.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with 'new Cassel'? I've never heard of it (lifetime Long Islander, ha) and there are a ton of houses . . . anyone know it?

We don't want to go too far east, nor too far south really. I think these are all south, right?
