When you changed your name at the DMV...
Did they take your license away and give you a temporary card only? Everyone else I know who went to the DMV in Manhattan got to keep their license except for me.

I got to keep mine - they did give me a temporary card though to basically say it was being processed. I would contact them to get that back.

Who do you think should I contact? I swear, the guy looked at me like I had three heads when I asked to keep it. He said they never let people keep it. Do you think maybe he just tossed it? Sigh.

Oooh I have no idea. I would hope he didn't toss it - if they find it somewhere they might mail it back to you. But I would see if there was some customer service phone # or email.

The temporary ID should be accepted as good as your license anywhere you go. I used my temporary ID like a regular one and then my ID was in in 2 weeks.

I got to keep mine. I don't understand why they would need it? I have all my old licenses.

Temp ID should be okay for driving and such, but I was going to change name on passport so I could book flights internationally (and because I could still get a free passport since its been less than a year since I renewed) but now I need my maiden name passport to get on flights in May and June that I have booked already. I wouldn't have changed it if I knew they were going to take it--so many people told me they wouldn't!!

If it was a NY id you should of kept it, theres really no use going back n fighting thats the kind of thing you have to do at that time. The number you call is to Albany prob wont be much help either since you have a temp. I.d. now they cant overnite you one or expedite it. Dmv is a **** showWelcome New Vendors
