Re: newlywed sneaky shopping tips

Maybe this is going to sound harsh - but I don't see the point in lying and making up stories.

Everyone treats themselves to things, yeah. But dude...Coach bags, even on sale, they don't come cheap.

But if the tables were turned and you found out he was buying new things when you're supposed to be saving, then this post would've read something like 'I'm so mad at DH, he's LYING to me, he's spending OUR money on things when we're supposed to be saving'

Re: newlywed sneaky shopping tips

oh i use the excuse 'it was aunt clara's'...

his great aunt passed away over the summer, so we got a lot of stuff, it's easy to use that as an excuse whenever there is somehting new! lol.

and i get yelled at for going to the dollar store and kohls. i never really buy expensive things...don't see a point since I'm always changing things...

Re: newlywed sneaky shopping tips

if you have to sneak, tell him that your friend so and so bought it and it didn't fit her and she didn't feel like returning it.

Re: newlywed sneaky shopping tips

Sometimes DH gets on me for shopping so much, but that's why we have Yours Mine and Ours...

we each have a certain amount of money per paycheck that we put towards our joint savings and bills. After that, the rest of my money is mine to do with as I see fit (and same for him) - so the two pairs of shoes from DSW I just bought were more of a PITA to him because they take up closet space, rather than ruining our budget. And I can't get mad if he buys yet another video game that he'll play for 2 months and then never touch again.

Re: newlywed sneaky shopping tips

DH isn't usually home when I get home, so he never knows if I go shopping or not, but we have separate accounts so it doesn't really matter. He also usually doesn't notice if something is new or not

Re: newlywed sneaky shopping tips

My mindset is this....I work...a lot and hard...so if there is something within reason that I like or need I buy it. Key words here are 'within reason'

I am SO focused on buying our first house that I don't have nearly the interest in material goods that I once had. I like to admire things and I absolutely sitll buy things....especially staples (white t-shirts, jeans, etc).

I'm just really transparent with DH (usually I flaunt new clothes bc I'm so excited about it) about it bc as an above poster mentioned, I would be pizzzzzzzzzzzzzzed if he was sneaking and lying to me about his spending!

I ask him before major purchases.

He knows I love to shop. I don't hide it from him...but I dont go out of my way to tell him either!
