My biggest dilemma right now is concerning the wedding itself. I would rather NOT drive to New York from Texas (24 hr drive, without stops). I am trying to make favors / decorations for the reception etc. However, the problem is I don't have anywhere to ship it, therefore I have to either CARRY it to NY or drive to NY. Anyone have creative ideas?

Call the UPS store. They might be able to set up a mailbox for you for a limited time period (like a month) for you to ship things to.

Hey trishandeli I'm in DC too.

I came here for school and just never left. FH and I love this area. The only thing that I miss about NY are my family and friends. I just wish that I could move them all down here too.

FH and I live in Boston, but my parents live in Brooklyn. My mom has been doing a lot of work and has been a great help. Plus reading everyone's suggestions on this site is great. We're coming down this weekend to see the venue and meet with some vendors, I am so excited!

ME! I live in the Poconos which isn't too bad compared to all you other gals from so far away, Me and FH moved out here 2 years ago in June. I bet it is so hard to do it from so far!

Living in FL currently, but moving to Seattle in the next month or two. FH has gone ahead of me and I'm still waiting to have the roof fixed on my condo so I can sell it. I'm originally from LI and have the bigger family there, which is why we're getting married there. He's family is from Alaska so they'll be flying no matter where we have it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I contacted the UPS store in Mineola. They have a location very near my reception site. It is $65 for 3 months, so I can set it up and ship things as I need to! I am so grateful! This is why this website ROCKS!

Yeaa I've just started to plan my wedding. I'm stationed in NM but I'm currently in the Middle East. I've gotta work a 12 hour day then stay up until I can actually call anyone, b/c of the time difference. Its all good though I just can't wait to go home and Hugg my future Hubby!!! I definitly miss NY!

Me! I am in Las Vegas, thank god my mom is on Long Island and is helping or this would be impossible!

I am moving to PA by the end of this month. So i will be planning from there. But its not so bad since almost everything is done.

I'm planning in Boston...I, too, grew up in Queens and have lived in Boston since I graduated from college...

I decided to have the wedding in NY so I could get married at my parents' church, but sometimes I really wish I had just done it in Boston...I know the wedding will be great, but the planning from afar thing is killing me...

DH and I are originally from Long Island but now live in Florida. We planned our entire NYC wedding from here! (with some help from LIW)!!

Us too.....we moved to NC last spring and got engaged in December. I still miss NY A LOT...our friends are all up there, so we decided to get married on LI. My mom can't help too much because my parents live in Massachusetts. Luckily, I have my FMIL and FSIL up there to help me! I have really just begun, but have already booked the church and hall over the holidays. I am headed up there in a few weeks to meet with florists and photographers. I know it is going to be a pain, but I am up for the challenge!

FH and I live in Maryland, and we're planning our LI wedding mainly from MD, with some visiting on the weekends to do wedding stuff. I am in NY this weekend to do my MU trial and ordered my veil. But due to the snowstorm, I had to cancel my hair trial. I have to come back next weekend! It's hard, but we started so early and we're trying to be organized. It's working so far.

are anny of you making your rsvp date earlier than you would if you were on LI? i am thinking about it to give us more of a buffer to finalizing those certain things that ger finalized right before a wedding.. and gives us more time to harass those that dont send RSVP's in a timely manner...

an early rsvp date is a great idea. especially if you are expecting other guests from outside of NY.

it's hard to predict which out-of-towners will travel to NY. i was thinking of printing 2 sets of rsvp cards with different dates for a 'A' guest list and 'B' guest list. i know that sounds horrible, but i want to guarantee my minimum without going too far over!

I live in Dallas, Texas. My FH is from New York. I have been making trips to NY to meet with vendors here and there. It is DEFINITELY thanks to the LIW ladies that I have found the majority of my vendors. Otherwise, this process would have been very tough.

Another bride from San Diego. Thanks to my mom, planning has been ok. She was the one that went and listened to all the bands for me! I've just been cramming everything in to the trips that I've made. Yes it's been hectic, but it's also been a little bit nice in that you get to step back every once in awhile since not everything is in your face!

What is everyone doing about their dress? I ended up getting mine on LI because there were no salons in San Diego that carried it. I'm hoping that since I was measured by the designer that there won't be too many fittings! But I was curious to see what everyone else was planning on doing...
