Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

We live in South Amityville. Bought our house 2 years ago this August. We got a great deal on the house, and we rolled our down payment and closing costs into our mortgage payment, and only put 5% down. I dont know how we lived in an apartment for so long. Theres no feeling like owning your own home.

Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

FH and I bought a condo together about 6 months ago and couldn't be happier.
The prices of everything are extremely ridiculous and unless you have something handed to you it's pretty tough, but we seem to be doing okay. Finding a place and moving in, did alleviate a lot of stress that would have been added to the stressfulness of the wedding though!!

Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

FH & I bought a house 1 1/2 years ago. It was a really good opportunity - 2 family so we rent out downstairs. If you can do it that way, it really helps.

Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

we are currently looking at our options, we rent a one bedroom garden style co-op in Queens, it's very pretty area, but the apartment is small. We are tired of paying rent so it's time to focus on buying a house or condo. We put all the money from the wedding into a savings account and haven't touched it and then added our tax money to that so we are working towards the down payment. But we do have a lot of debt from the wedding (we paid for it ourselves) We've been paying off our credit cards with our paychecks so it will slowly go away. I also have an ING direct savings account with a higher interest that takes directly from my checking so that is another savings that I'm not touching and hopefully I wont even notice....as far as things now, it's doable but we have to stay focused and keep paying off debt and look for a cheap house (that will be tough)

We are buying my childhood home (I grew up in Nassau)! So exciting and crazy at the same time, because we are paying for the wedding ourselves and soon we'll have to pay mortgage.. I am going to miss eating 3 meals a day...

ETA: Kelly, I am so sorry to hear about your mom!

Thanks! I can understand we paid for our wedding and our first mortgage payment was a month after the wedding! Not including all the checks we wrote out for the house 2 weeks before the wedding! seeing our bank accounts drop so drastically in such a short time almost killed us!

Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

We purchased a house a little over a year before we got engaged. By the time we get married, we would be owing a place together for over two years. I moved out of my county, Queens, to Staten Island. I am still trying to adjust

Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

We are living at my mom's house now (she lives in FL). His parents are looking to move to NC after the wedding, we will then buy their house and re-do it this winter and hopefully be in by next spring. In the meantime we will stay at my mom's.

Re: Anyone buy a house yet?

FI and I have been living together (renting in the city) for the past 2 1/2 years and recently signed the contract for a 1br co-op here. We're still waiting for the interview, though... He has been investing in the stock market for a long time, so that's definitely helped! I grew up in Nassau. I love living in the city, but imagine maybe eventually (maybe 5-10 years or so) we'll move to the 'burbs.
