There is one other girl currently engaged that is planning a big wedding, but there are also 4 other girls that got married since July 04 that have all had big weddings.

I am the only one that is getting married at my job. I work with all guys and they are so funny with the planning talk. They always ask 'Are you on that wedding web site again?'

I am. There are a few people at work who are engaged or recently married. When we discuss our plans, they seem to form opinions on spending and how it is wasteful to spend all that money on one day. Shoot, even people on LIW do that. I want a big wedding and I am having one (its all relative though - I am not a Hilton or a Rockefeller).

But let me say this, if you and your FH, or your families, or the NY State Lottery says you have enough money to have an over the top very expensive huge wedding then there is no reason why you shouldnt have one. If you have to go beyond your means or into hock to have it then it may be time to prioritize and have a smaller function or something less formal.

Some people commented on the bride who ended up spending $160,000 or so on her wedding for 90 people (or maybe it was 60). I say, 'So what!' If you have it and this is how you choose to spend your money then do it. Many of us can't conceive of having this kind of money and the thought of spending what most of us would use as a down payment for a house in one day is ludicrous. Not to me. If I had it, I would spend it - just as long as there was money left over in the bank as a cushion. I surely would not clear out my investments and my retirement fund to finance a wedding.

Remember where we live. LI has some of the wealthiest communities in the country. There are lots of families inside and outside of the city who wouldnt blink at dropping a couple hundred thousand dollars for their daughter's weddings. I am not a member of those families, but I know people who are.

I hate to say it, but i'd be one of those people who would comment on the 60 person wedding costing $160,000. Only b/c I can't fathom that expensive of a wedding, lol! Its easy to comment and think 'how crazy to spend that much in one day' when all I can think of is the things i'd do with that money!!!

-1 unmarried 45 yr old

-2 married ladies


so no one to share my joy or no noe to understand!!! worst thing is, i sit facing girl #1 - so she hears all my wedding talk. probably makes her feel bad but its my time to be happy and im not going to tone it down

A few girls & guys at my office just got married very recently.. Im next and Im having a large wedding. And yes... i am the one & only bride to be at my office!!!

ship brokering (moving oil on ships). im the only girl who does it in my office nad pretty much the northeast.

Sdicarlo (Sam) and I work together and we got engaged 1 weekend apart from one another. She got me hooked on liweddings....and we are constantly yapping about all things wedding related...at each other's desks or right on these threads.

It is a sickness from which you cannot escape...at least until you are married.

Thats exactly my point. We cannot fathom that expensive of a wedding because many of us are hard working people who save and save and save. Some people have the great fortune of not having to worry about things like that. For all of the Paris Hilton type of debutantes that you see in the public eye, there are PLENTY of wealthy daughters of real estate moguls, doctors and businessmen who are not public people and have the same type of wealth.

We are more concerned with the practicality of things and the luxury of a multiple hundred thousand dollar wedding is so far removed from our worlds that it isnt really an option.

I venture to say that we wouldnt think twice about a person who wanted a very modest wedding - perhaps in a restaurant or small room or even a church hall, but why not afford that same courtesy for those who have money to spend. I wish I had it! Again, it is nobody's business how people choose to spend their money.

I was lucky, two girls in my office got married around the same time as me one if February, I was July and one in August, so I had them to talk to.

We are lucky not to have any crazy bridezillas running around, I would probably get turned off to planning if I had to deal with that in my office.

Well I am the only one in the dept although there are a few other engaged teachers at the school. And yes I am the only one in my dept that will have a rather large wedding. My boss always throws in his two cents about the waste of money a large wedding is. Just cause he had a small one he feels like that is the right thing for everyone. Oh boy he drives me nuts!

The big wedding....nah, they all had them. Im just the last to have one.
