my parents got their house in montauk through bidding. the house had been reposessed for tax fraud and so prospecitve buyers did a bid on it. at the time, my stepdad bid 140K and was 20K over the next bid...they got a fantastic deal and now the houses in the area are going to 400k and that was 7 years ago. the bids can get out of hand, but it can also be a fantastic way to get a house. but the fact that it is so announced will get a lot of people bidding and that might make the buyer not get such a good deal.
