I don't really think it is fair to use a thin person as a gauge to decide what a heavy person could wear comfortably AND vice versa. The petite BM in my BP chose strapless and looked better (and more comfortable) in a strapless dress. The heavier person said hands down 'I won't wear strapless' and to be 100% honest, strapless was not flattering for her at all. Her friendship is worth much more than her discomfort. Having been MAJORLY on both sides of the weight issue myself, I could certainly sympathize with a tough fit. JMO.

I think if you stick with A-line, you cna never go wrong. Most separates have a-line bottoms so that leaves a lot of choices as well.

I agree about havng the girls choose their own dresses, I think that's the best way if you want to do that. All my girls will be wearing Bill Levkoff in Euro Celadon Satin but they are choosing their own dresses to suit their styles/tastes.

Well, the one I chose (that I posted) is cut for both small and bigger girls, that's what I like about it. I went on an internet search for plus size bridemaids dresses and this website came up. They have sizes ranging from 0 - 12f (or something like that). So I think the one I'm thinking of will flatter since it's geared towards everyone.

Being a non-petite person I absolutely love how every model in all these pics are skinny. How about some real sized people of all shapes and sizes?

I TOTALLY agree with you. I by no means am petite either. I'm not huge either... I AM NORMAL!!!! LOL

So when we were looking at all these dresses we're like, 'yeah, that looks good ONLY for that model.' It's ridiculous if you ask me. I swear, this world is really messed up. It's unfortunate that women are portrayed that way in mags. What about us?

It's been kinda hard cuz NOT EVERYONE looks like that!!!!

So ladies... let's STAND UP AND CELEBRATE OUR CURVES TODAY!!

I agree.

And as a 'larger' girl...any small cutesy little bows and sashes around the middle area, is not really flattering at all. That originally what I wanted for my girls, but than I realized that *I* wouldn't wear one of those dresses and be comfortable, so how could I expect one of my girls to do that same?

Instead, I choose a simple a-line satin (less clingy) gown from David's Bridal and they were all happy with it.

Any dress place can help you and give you reccommendations. That is what we did. We are going with a A line gown.

Alfred Angelo features plus sized models in their ads and on their website. I always admired that. Usually, plus size models are an actual size 8 or 10 which may photograph as a 12 or 14. I wear a 10 now and I am not heavy for my height. This dress looks good on all of the models of all sizes and ages.

I have a variety of different sizes, ranging from a size 0, to a 2 who is a 32DD, all the way to size 16. I just got their dresses in and they look awsome on everyone.

By the way, Estelles dressy dresses was great for the bridesmaids. They dont do alterations through the store so that actually size you to your true size. I only have one girl who needs major alterations and that was because she was pregnant when we ordered the dress.

I have a BP that ranges in size from 0-16. they are all picking Bill Levkoff 2-piece sets in Euro Navy. Having been a size 24 myself only three years ago, if a Bridezilla put me in a strapless dress or a dress that required specialty undergarments, I would have been unhappy and miserable. If you choose to honor the ones you love to participate in your special day, where is the honor when they are unhappy and uncomfortable? And I don't care what anyone says. If a dress is made in a 2 and a 32, the dress will NOT look as flattering on the bigger girl. I WAS the bigger girl - not fun.

Here are three of the 5 dresses THEY chose. They are happy. I am happy. (Unfortunately, the lighting in the pictures makes the fabric look different in each one but they are all the same)

Bill Levkoff has great selections for all sizes, this was my dilemma too, but each girl picked their own dress that they felt comfortable in, but all of them knew that they had to have the same color, length and material. We got ours at Lestans in Brooklyn.

Yes they do. My BP thanked me for not pulling a Bridezilla 'Stepford Wife' bridal party number on them.

We ordered Jim Hjelm Dresses:

My BM's were sizes 2, 4, 12, 16, and 18

Sorry. this is a sample dress they have on, but it was so flattering on every single one of them!

I had picked a color and the girls picked the dress or 2 piece set they liked best. They were also some from out of town...so it worked best for us
