CATERER'S GET A KICK BACK
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THIS? MY FRIEND JUST TOLD ME THAT ALL CATERER'S GET A 20% KICK BACK AND THAT IS REALLY WHY THEY SUGGEST CERTAIN VENDORS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY THING TO ADD OR SUGGEST. HELP!
You are more than welcome. Let us know how you make out.
CATERER'S GET A KICK BACK
Hummm, that probably also accounts for the high insurance limits and all the hoops that outside vendors must jump through, too. Interesting that the house vendors have no problems with that.
Just curious.......
CATERER'S GET A KICK BACK
Absolutely! That's why I choose not to be a "house" photographer (although I'm referred by Flowerfield + La Salle because they like me. And yes, I do give them 10% referral consideration, which is normal) Anytime a Caterer "pushes" their house vendors and trys to intimidate you ("only our favorites really know how to work @ our place" or insurance or whatever) then you know it is for money and no other reason.
Don't be fooled!
If you are having 250 people I don't reccomend Fox Hollow, their Garden Room is the biggest that they have and my experience was not a great one.

WOW THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS.TIM I DIDN'T QUITE UNDERSTAND YOURS TOTALLY ABOUT VENDORS ???.......CAN YOU CLARIFY???? MARK ARE YOU SAYING THAT IS THE REASON WHY AN AISSITANT LIKE SHARON AT FOX HOLOW IS PUSHING HER VENDORS....JUST FOR MONEY UNDER THE TABLE ???? WOW I WAS SO SURPRISED WHEN MY FRIEND TOLD ME AND YOU AND ANOTHER HALL OR TWO HAVE CONFIRMED THAT ALSO. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY PUSH AND PUSH AND EVEN SCHEDULE A SHOWCASE AND PRIVATE MEETING FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THEY DO BUSINESS WITH JUST TO ENSURE THEIR HIGH COMMISSION.....IS THAT TRUE???? I WENT TO FOX HOLLOW FOR A QUOTE....I'M VERY CONCERNED NOW. ISN'T IT ENOUGH THAT THEY CHARGE SUCH HIGH PRICES?????I WAS QUOTED $95 A PERSON AND WITH EXTRAS IT COULD BE $110-115 A PERSON . NOW THEY MAY WANT MORE MONEY FROM WHAT I SPEND ON PEOPLE I HIRE?????ISN'T THERE A LAW AGAINST THAT! PLEASE HELP....GETTING REAL NERVOUS.
If you want to compare it to a regular work day....we typically are given a full lunch hour. That's for an 8 hour work day. They're working close to 12 hours - and if I didn't feed them, they'd leave to go get food. I'd rather have them there just in case dinner ISN"T a full hour...so they don't miss anything.
Besides, it is illegal for my employer to ask that I work 12 hours without a coffee break and a a full lunch hour.

Vicki,
Yes.
Isn't that a good thing? Why doesn't everyone appreciate me being outspoken and giving advice about what they might not have been aware of?
CATERER'S GET A KICK BACK
yeah i think it is against the law. they shouldn't push these guys on us
I do think that you are misinterpreting his message. There are a few of us on this board, myself included, who happen to agree with the views he has expressed.
It is perfectly acceptable for you to disagree with him, me or anyone else on this board. But calling people names and being down right disrespectful is not very productive and is quite rude.

Vicki -
No problem. My hall has a 2 million dollar insurance requirement for vendors that perform work. The paper work must be made out in a very specific fashion and delivered to the hall at least six months (I think) before the date. It seems that they would prefer you to use one of the house vendors "to make it easier" on you. It just seems like if you want to bring in your own vendors, that they make you jump through more hoops. It's almost like they want you to throw in the towel, so to speak.

is that legal for a caterer to tell you who to use. it my wedding not theirs. don't they make enough money. it sounds like they are ripping us off. any comments
Hi! I'm looking for dirt on Brentwood Country Club. Is it awesome or cheesy? Good for an outdoor reception? Any stories? Thanks! Timerie
CATERER'S GET A KICK BACK
They're not actually "telling" you who to use, they are merely "suggesting". They still allow you to use your own vendors, as long as they meet the hall's requirements. It's for their protection and your guests, they say. I wonder how many house vendors have those requirements waived because they work there so much that the hall "trusts" them?
No one is forced to do anything. I've only made suggestions in areas that I thought you might be interested. We are talking about paid employees in a service oriented business. Not the owners who "charge thousands of dollars" (as if we're stealing from you or being innapropriate in our pricing. Believe me; if any business owner charged the wrong amount, he would be out of business in no time. And there are very few vendors who are making a fortune while maintaining any semblance of family life. Most of us are in this business because we enjoy it; not to make a fortune or to have an easy life!)
