Re: changing your last name?

I am changing mine. I kinda didn't want to more on the principle that his name is impossible to pronounce and needs to be spelled multiple times...it also sounds like bafoon, which I am not excited about, but especially once we have kids I want us all to have the same last name.

Re: changing your last name?

i will be changing mine. at first i was all for it because his last name is so easy and mine is a longer polish last name but as i get closer, i will admit, im sad about changing it. it has been my identity for the past 27 years and now poof gone!

I feel the same way. I never imagined that changing my name would bother me so much. I don't think I'll hyphenate it because I feel like I might regret that later on, but I am definitely sad that I have to lose my name. Why can't men change their names??? Who came up with this anyway?

Re: changing your last name?

I really never thought of NOT changing it. I like my last name fine, but changing my name is just something I always knew I'd do. I feel (JMO) that it's an additional acknowledgment on paper that you're a family. Also, once we have children I think it makes everything easier.

Also, my mom did change her name.

I am changing my name!! I can't wait. It is kind of weird because I am a teacher so I hear my last name CONSTANTLY (it's kindergarten, so you can imagine how many times they call my name over and over LOL). I

I am looking forward to being Mrs.____ though!!! I am also happy it is still an Italian name!

Re: changing your last name?

Definitely changing mine since FH's last name is much shorter and easier to pronounce than my own. However it is going to be a total pain in the a$$ because I have to get Affidavits to change it with the Attorney Registration Unit in NY state and that will take a few weeks to process.

Re: changing your last name?

Changing my name. My last name actually completely dies with me (I'm an only child with nobody else in family with our name) but I'm okay with it--mine is longer and more Jewish than FH's last name.

There's no way I'm hyphening my name. I don't want to keep my name anymore. Since my parents got divorced, my mom uses her maiden name anyway and I don't associate with my dad's family. But FH has an apostrophe in his name which causes problems for him sometimes - not looking forward to that.

oh dear, yes the horrid ' . After 30 years I am so excited to change names just to not have to deal with that! I recommend that you just don't write it. The dr's can never find my name cause they don't know if they did D'A (right way), DeA, DiA, etc. one reason i WANT to change. he last few years I do everything just DA!

me... i am def changing. I just always felt I would, i guess cause that what everyone in my family has done. I also want us and our children to have the same name when the time comes., we are one family, i like the idea of having one name!

Re: changing your last name?

I am changing! But I get to keep my initials and go from an always mis-pronounced last name to a simple, single syllable last name!! I really can't wait to share it with him. It doesn't change who you are, it is just a name, and to a lot of people I've known for years, I'll still be known as...'_____' (my last name, for now)
