Re: changing your last name?

Can't wait to change it. I don't like the last name and the only family I have is on my mother's side. My bio father's whose last name I have is out of the picutre and I've never had any relationship with anyone on his side, so for me, the last name I have no connection to and can't wait to no longer carry it.

Re: changing your last name?

I am changing my last name to FH's. I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't know why but it just feels right changing my name

Re: changing your last name?

I'm not changing it, at least not right away.

FH is Greek and his last name is 15 letters long.

Also, I looooove my last name! I can't imagine not having it.

If we have a family one day, I'll hyphenate and confuse everyone

Re: changing your last name?

Just wondering...has anyone's FH offered to hyphenate their last names? Mine has (and is still willing too), but I decided against it!

Re: changing your last name?

There's no way I'm hyphening my name. I don't want to keep my name anymore. Since my parents got divorced, my mom uses her maiden name anyway and I don't associate with my dad's family. But FH has an apostrophe in his name which causes problems for him sometimes - not looking forward to that.

Re: changing your last name?

I will be adding his name to mine. My daughter ( not his daugther) has my last name and i dont want her to feel outside of the family. Our son has my soon to be last name so she would be the only one with a different name. So when it comes to anything having to do with her (school, medical) I will use my maiden name.

I'm changing. It is going to be a pita for me with my degrees and such, but I have always wanted to so I'm not going to let that get in my way.

Re: changing your last name?

we're both changing our last names to a combined version

not our real names, but for example:

if we were

Jen Jones & Eric Smith

we will both be changing to either Jen & Eric Jones-Smith or Jen & Eric Smith-Jones

it will most likely be my name last

I am not changing mine. I am going to add his last name onto my last name (but NO hyphen), but still go by my maiden name in my personal and professional life. I will probably make the switch in my personal life once we have children.

Same

I'll be changing my last name to his. I've never thought about not changing it... I can't wait to have the same last name as him, even if I'm not particularly fond of it. lol.

Re: changing your last name?

just wondering...for everyone who says they never thought of not changing...did your mom change her name? see, that's my problem. my mom didn't change her name, and my family is horrified at the prospect that i may change my name. i hate my last name, which everyone understands, but they think i should change it to my mom's last name instead of fh's.

Re: changing your last name?

Let it be your choice and no one elses. Do what makes you happy. Try his on and see if you like it.
For me, the decison was easy. My father is not part of my life, has not been my entire life, your typical absent father. So I have no ties to my last name. I will be taking FH last name and starting my own family (extending his).
