Re: Crock Pot
what brands do you recommend? That would probably be a good idea for Danielle and I but I wouldnt have time to put everything in the morning, unless I prepare it at night...and I also would feel wierd about leaving it on during the day...Scott

Re: Crock Pot
I got a Rival for $25 at Target. It's not stainless steel or programmable, but I does what I need. Also I saw some new commercials this week for easy crock pot meals. All the veggies and meat are in a bag and you just need to add water. Although I don't mind the prep involved it's a great option for those who don't have time.

I guess stuff can evaporate out of it, its not tightly sealed. Its a pretty thick mixture i guess, but it got even thicker after cooking.
Yeah, if you cook anything on high and don't put liquid in (like, let's say you're doing the pork spare ribs with BBQ sauce poured over the top) stuff can burn. You have to have some liquid in there, and pouring BBQ sauce over the top doesn't do much. Plus the sugar is what burns. Or, you need to use a rack so the meat isn't touching the bottom of the crockpot.

I didn't put any water in mine. Just the onions, ribs and bbq sauce. But it's on low for 9 hours. Is that ok?

Yeah, they are pretty cheap.
Who has some EASY recipes?
Chili
1 can of beans (red or kidney)
1 lb of ground turkey or beef browned
1 can of chopped tomatos
1 medium onion diced
1 or 2 stalks of diced celery (optional)
chili seasonings
salt/pepper
cumin
1 1/2 cup of beef or vegetable broth
or
1 can/bottle of beer
I cook on HI setting for 4 hours. IF I do it on low it will cook for 7-8 hours.

I used Bud Light, but a co-worker told me that she likes to use a heartier beer. I know nothing about beer, I had a ask a friend for the bud light.

Re: Crock Pot
I have a couple of frozen cornish hens, can I put them in the Crock pot?I just got it for my shower and would love to use it!
I would assume that the hens will have to be defrosted first?

OMG - this is the same crock pot I got from my work Bridal shower and it's the BEST!!!!! I haven't used it yet while I'm not home, but one Sunday I used it to make Chicken in a Pot, and it was the most delicious thing I've ever made, and all I did as dump the ingredients in and walk away! It was a big hit, and we had DH's parents over for dinner that night and it came out so well! DH loves it now, and we plan on making Chili next and having a big party sometime this fall - YUMMY!
This Rival crock pot comes with a small book of recipes too and they're really good, but there's a graet Pillsbury cookbook called One Dish Meals that has a whole chapter devoted to crock pot recipes. I recommend that too, you can never go wrong with Pillsbury!
