Re: Crock Pot
Here are some of my treasured crock pot recipesPot roast - great for winter meal
One bottom round roast
2 cans cream of mushroom soup plus 1 can of water you might have a little sticking if there isn't enough liquid)
about 1/2 cup of vadalia onion salad dressing (costco or BJ carries this)
about 1 tsp gravy master
I like to add barley (1/2 cup) to mine I like it in the gravy.
Pulled Beef or Bar-B- Qued beef (Can be done with pork also)
1 bottom round or even chuck roast
Cook in crock pot filled with water over the top of roast. Cook at least 8+ hours
Drain and separate meat (should fall apart)
Cover with favorite Bar-B-que sauce
Serve on rolls (Can toast roll or add melted cheese on roll)
Corned Beef
Put corned beef covered with water in pot at NIGHT before bed
Cook while sleeping
In AM take corned beef out and while hot scrape all that nasty fat off meat (comes off easy when hot)
placed the whole piece in refigerator
when it is cold then slice
reheat slices in pan with beer.
Serve on rye with swiss and sour kraut or cole slaw.
Hope you enjoy these! I couldn't live without my crock pot. Have used it for 28 years and no need to worry about a fire.

Re: Crock Pot
I have the same fears. I have only used it once and made turkey parts in it and it smelled like Thanksgiving in the house all day. the only thing I do not like is that you cannot see if it is seasoned right until afterwards. I need receipes too!!!!

Re: Crock Pot
I've never had food that was cooked in a crock pot, but I was curious, has anyone ever looked into how safe they are, meaning, doesn't meat have to be cooked at a certain temperature to kill the bacteria? If its a slow-cooker using minimal heat, how safe is that?

Well, I guess if it wasn't safe, they wouldn't be out on the market. Let us know how your ribs turned out!

They fell right off the bone and FH ate almost the whole three pounds! A success. It was so nice to come home after work to dinner being ready!

Re: Crock Pot
I LOVE my crockpot. Although I would like to register for the Rival timer one. My rival just has the 3 settings. And I put it on low before I leave in the morning and turn it off when I get home. And THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for those wonderful recipes and websites. Especially the pulled pork/beef. I had gastric bypass surgery and the slow cookers makes things so moist and tender and easy for me to digest!

...if they were unsafe, they would not make them...
While it'd be nice to believe such a statement .. things aren't always as logical as you'd like.
I'm in the group that will not leave the crock pot going all day with nobody at the house.
I also don't like the washer/dryer/dishwasher going when nobody is at the house either .. and will not run these appliances when we're sleeping, either.
