Re: Do Rhinestones on a veil show up black in pictures?
I heard it's better to use crystal than rhinestones. The rhinestones have a backing. This is what makes it show up black. The crystals are completely clear.

I've heard that, but it seems to always come from salewomen. Could be an upsale technique. Ask a photographer on the vendor board.

I heard it's better to use crystals or pearls because the rhinestones come out black

I heard it also from the bridal salon but I asked several photographers about it and they said they did not turn out black in any of their experiences.

Re: Do Rhinestones on a veil show up black in pictures?
Now that I've been freaking out all day about this I called Bridal Suite (centereach) the place I ordered my dress and veil from and they said they've worked there forever and have NEVER heard this from ANYONE... does anyone have proof that this happens? Like you've seen pics? Thanks! Actually the pics people have on websites selling rhinestone veils, they don't look black.. so I'm confused!

Re: Do Rhinestones on a veil show up black in pictures?
I think if your photographer knows what he's doing you won't have to worry. Everything has to do with lighting and angles, ask him if anyone! When I ordered my veil, I was cautioned against getting anything but plain tulle because of how it may or may not show up in pics. Also because of how it would look on me. (Trim made me look shorter).

Re: Do Rhinestones on a veil show up black in pictures?
Wrote to a company....Hi Jennifer,
Don't panic! We were always told that too, and in fact passed that information along to our customers. However, when we did a photo shoot we found that it wasn't true at all! You can see a photo of a veil with rhinestones on it at this link:
http://www.veilshop.com/accent_display.php?type=rhinestone
Click on the photo of the veil to enlarge it. You can see that they didn't turn black at all. I think what may happen is that in a very close shot, like the up close picture of the rhinestone on the right, if the light is low (and the camera is literally close enough to your face to make the
rhinestone that large) then it might look dark, but I don't think they take may photos of you THAT closely! :)
Hope that helps!

Re: Do Rhinestones on a veil show up black in pictures?
ok ... I've never heard this ... I had rhinestones on my veil & they DID NOT show up black IN ANY PICTURES. In the proofs or candid photo's .I loved the way that looked in person & all the guests said how much it added a beautiful accent to my dress & headpiece.
Please don't worry ..

Re: Do Rhinestones on a veil show up black in pictures?
I read this on the Martha Stewart site too. Also in a book on making your own veil that I borrowed (I Do Veils! is the title). It mentions that the backing on the rhinestones may tarnish over time, so if you plan to keep the veil as an heirloom you might want to avoid this sort of rhinestone. It also mentioned that you can get rhinestones with a backing set in white plastic rather than the silver color and these are ok.

My photographer actually told me that this was true. It does look nice though, but do you really want black dots showing up on your pics.??
