I just wanted to say that when you go to Applebees or Peter Lugers, the servers are not recieving the money that you pay for your meal, they are making about $3.50 an hour, plus tips. When a make-up person, or a hair person comes to your home-they are keeping the entire amount of money. I think if you are going to a salon or spa you should absolutely tip-but not when they are coming to you, or whne you go to thier homes.
I worked as a bartender and a waitress for 7 years-so I know what it's like to live off tips. Also, my cousin was a colorist for a few years, and she wouldn't expect tips when she moonlighted....
I think if you tip extra-that really awesome, but I don't think it's required, like it would be if you went to a shop-JMHO.
Thats exactly what I mean. The wait staff shouldnt get less money for a tip because they are opening their wallet a little more for the food.
I dont understand the difference between going to the salon or your house except that I feel that if I were travelling to you to make it more convenient for you, the tip should relect that too if one is to be given.
To me, the difference between going to the salon or having them come to your house, is that when you go to the salon, the salon makes 80% of what you pay, and the make-up person/hair person makes 20%-when they come to your house they make 100%-there is no overhead.

I think that you should always tip when a personal service is being rendered. No matter what location, if someone is driving you around, cutting your hair, taking your pictures, or doing your nails. These are all services which should be tipped!Welcome New Vendors
