Our 'donation' is $500 and he said if we wanted a singer it would be more, not sure how much more yet

I'll be tipping the altar servers and musicians. I'm not tipping the priest/deacon.

This may be a totally random and weird question....but are these 'donations' we have to give to the church tax deductible?

They should be. Most religious donations are.

They always say that the Church was the first and longest business in existence.

Your priest is independent from the donation you are making to the actual church. So if you have a special relationship or feel your priest has helped you through this time, I think a gift would be nice. For example, we're getting our priest tickets to a Mets game (he's a fan). I think it's a nice gesture. And you really should tip your alter boys - they are donating their time.

my church is asking 650 i think that is crazy! To make a sacremant of marriage in the church costs that much. It makes me so aggrevated.

I honestly have no idea. We have a fee, so I am assuming we need to make some sort of separate donation or tip. We plan on tipping the alter boys and organist.
