Thank you for all of your wonderful suggestions for bridal shops. Unfortunately, most of them weren't open on Sunday, or were already booked. So I went to Bonaventure Bridals in Garden City. What a wonderful place. They had really nice gowns, were not pushy, were reasonably priced, and I found two gowns that I'm in love with. That's my problem. I know I still have plenty of time to shop around and get more ideas, but what do you do when you fall in love with two completely different gowns that both look good, and your own mother doesn't know which one is better? One is a "traditional" bridal gown, and the other is more of an antique-y, elegant look. AHHHHHH! I thought it would take months to find the perfect dress, but instead I found two at the first shop I went to. I think this is worse!

It is located 1385 Broadway, I do not know how you can get a directory of all of the shops!

That's great Jennifer. I'm happy for you. Did you get to Adrienne's Bridal Shop in East Islip on Montauk Highway. She is open on Sundays too.

When meeting with couples who give me their DO NOT PLAY LIST, I remind them that while the day is for them, their guests are entitled to a good time as well. So, if there is one song that the majority would like to hear, but the bride and groom don't, perhaps reconsider. A 4 minute song that you don't like is not going to kill a 4 hour reception. Unless the song affects you emotionally, which some songs can do!

I don't think many people have a problem with one or two songs being played that they don't particularly care for. What people are afraid of is when DJ's go off the program of what the bride and groom have requested and start following the requests of the guests.

Jennifer,

I highly recommend Bonaventure. I bought my dress there, because I liked the intimate atmosphere, and every one was so helpful. I went there first, and then to about 5 other stores. I ended up back at Bonaventure because I got the best feeling from them.

Looking for dresses can drive you insane! I also had to decide between a traditional wedding dress with lace, and a modern, summery and elegant dress. I kept wishing I could buy all 5 dresses I fell in love with, and change every hour. But at some point you just decide, and then go with that look. Good luck!

I only went to the one shop so far. I'm thinking that since I am so torn between two dresses, that I'll continue to look and hopefully find something that blows the other two away. That will completely end my dilemma.

I am so glad to hear the positive input about Bonaventure because I work about two office buildings down from there and can go on my lunch hour! :) I will definately try them when looking for a dress!

Where did everyone go for bridesmaid dresses???

Karen--The pieces were lovely and definitely high quality like anything The Milleridge does. I scattered the extra pieces all round the cottage and used them on my cocktail tables. I had the higher star menu so it came with the 12--a good choice might be to upgrade. Even if you kept the 6, it's still an elegant choice...just enough

Gina, I'm curious, were you happy with the floral arrangements you got from the Milleridge florist?

Hi!

We just ordered our dresses(I'm a MOH) from Flowerama in Macy's Smithaven Mall. They are very busy there. You really need to make an appointment to get decent help, but, they do welcome you to come and look around to check out their selection. If you do not see the exact dress you are looking for you have to ask, someone else might be trying it on.

We chose a new dress for Spring 2000 by Watters & Watters. We had a very picky group of girls and we had trouble deciding between 3 dresses. We loved them all! The dress with alterations(if needed) was $230.00 that was tax free because we ordered it on the tax free day and paid in full.

I ordered my bridesmaids dresses from RK Bridal. I did it through their "no frills" program. The dresses were Bill Levkoff, $190 retail, but through the "no frills" plan they were only $150. I ordered them at the end of December and they'll be delivered the last week of February. (This worked for my bridal party because they are scattered all over the country and it was unlikely they'd all be in town to go for measurements/fittings together.) You can check out their selection at www.rkbridal.com. Good luck with your search and the rest of your wedding plans!! Deirdre

Hi, Lynn!

I'm with Jennifer on this...BAD! We checked the place out, and although the prices were nice and the people were pleasant, we thought the place was a pit! First, the place smelled moldy. Second, the decor was aweful...they had nice things but NOTHING matched. And, worst of all, they said that they were just finishing redorating, and there were water stains on the wall.
