When I worked at David's Bridal it wasn't uncommon for brides who wanted something simple to look in the bridesmaid's dept.

I believe, however, that they no longer offer many of their BM dresses in white.

That really makes me mad! WHen I first started looking for a dress, one of the bridal shops I went too told me they didn't allow brides to order bm dress in any form of white! And then she told me how tastless it was for a bride to wear a dress that was under $1000! She was like 'You don't want to look cheap do you?' I told her I rather look practical than wasteful, and walked out. That was the last time I steped foot in a bridal shop.

Are you kidding me!!! She is insane. My dress was 600$ I got it at estelles and it looked gorgeous! I am fuming by that comment. What an imbosel

I wish I was. She just wanted her comishion (spl). She was very snobby, and very traditional. She thought I had rich family because of the area this shop was i wasn't wearing designer clothes. My FH explained that in this area they don't expect people in their 20s to have money, but they suspect their parents do. My dress is a very informal bridal gown with no train or anything, so many people wear it as both a BM dress and a bridal gown...

It is what I originally wanted to do, and I sort of wish I had stuck with that plan. Try Jessica McClintock - they have wedding dresses, but they are pretty simple, and not that expensive. I wanted to get one there, but I am between a size 16 and 18 and wasn't confident the size would be large enough if I got an 18.

Yes I have. Many BM dresses come in white and are much less expensive that a wedding dress.

You should also check out J. Crew -- their dresses are very simple.

How unbelievably RUDE !! My biggest pet peeve is arrogant, snobby SALESpeople - HELLO !! YOU are working here, I am shopping here, who was SHE to imply you were cheap ?????
Anyway, to get back to the question.....You can wear WHATEVER you want ! It's your wedding day ! and a White BM dress will look amazing.
