Even though I am a Kerry supporter I am not going to pin this on Bush (entirely ). I think part of it is that gas has not inflated at the rate that everything else has in this country. With all that is going on in oil rich countries I think the oil companies saw an opportunity to make a little extra money.

That is a good point. Preshy7, you said you work in the oil biz. What is your take on it?

FH and I went to dinner last night and before we went in the gas station next door was $2.75 for reg. When we came out it was over $3! Luckily we took it as a sign and rushed to the nearest gas station that was still $2.75 and topped off. Honestly, I know for a lot of people it is very inconvenient...but some people are not going to be able to survive. Personally, I may have to start looking for another job (again) because I can't do overtime at this one. I may have to drop my health insurance to cover the cost...either that or postpone the wedding for 2 more years...don't laugh, we are considering it. With increased gas prices, the cost of everything is going to go up. My father owns a business and is raising his prices already. This economy is headed for the toilet...fast. I feel for SUV owners (my in-laws and cousin are SUV owners), and don't take offense, but they need to put that 'gas-guzzler tax' on SUV's. Sorry for the long rant...but I am very depressed about this...

PS: BTW, I know ths increase was not about Bush, but I have to say that I wish I could take my vote back anyway because I really don't think gas would have gotten as crazy as it did if it wasn't for him. I may be wrong in this assumption, but there has to be a reason that since he took office, gas has tripled in price! I will bow my head in shame and accept the Kerry supporter's 'I told you so' now.

oil is a commodity and is traded on Wall Street. 50% of all cars on the road in the US are SUV's. more demand = higher price. we are a gas guzzling nation, and we're feeling the burn now.

Get on your bicycles then! It's great exercise, doesn't require gas and you'd be surprised how it can be FASTER than cars in many cases!

LOL! I thought about that...which may work for my job once it gets cooler (save me a gallon of gas per week), but I can't cycle from Commack to Brookville for school...that's way too much cardio for me

I was thinking of getting one of those red bottles that you use to fill up when you run out on the side of the road and fill it up and store it but where??? oh jeeze now we have to store gas?? and I thought water and batteries were enough??

I knew my DH shouldn't of bought an SUV. It's like $60 to fill that thing up now. UGhhh!

i am an SUV owner & these gas prices are not going to make me turn it in! You just need to take things into consideration. I have already started to run all my errands on the way home so that once I get there, I have no reason to go back into the truck. It is all part of life, no matter what type of car you drive, it is going to guzzle gas & it is going to be expensive with the prices the way they are. You also have to suffer without driving with the AC on bc that uses more gas! It is all about compromise!

Plus someone gave me a good tip of advice, top your tank off every night after work because the 87 & 89 octane gas is starting to run low. Gas stations are turning people away. Never be without a full tank of gas!
