Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

a few questions- how do you know how many to make? do you just ask the hotel who has reservations? do you put their names on the bags?

where do you get mini wine bottles from - i would like to get wine from a long island winery.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

I would call the hotel a few weeks before your wedding and they will give you a list of the people who reserved rooms under your name. You can then go to the hotel the day before your guest arrive with the proper ## of gift bags so when the guest checks in the clerk at the front can hand them out or depending on your hotel, they will be put directly in their rooms. You can use name tags but it's not necessary.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

Maybride- I know I took pics of them but I don't know which roll of film it is on, I know there is still film I didn't develop since our wedding in May I also don't have a scanner. They came out really nice, I put some filler in the bottom of them and then wrapped them with clear cellophane and pretty ribbons. You can get so creative with them.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

Your ideas all sound great.
As for the baskets, where did you find them? How large were they? Did you find somewhere to get them inexpensively? I'd like to stay under $10 on each, since we figure another $20 for goodies. We may have as many as 30 rooms.

Thansk again for your time and assistance.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

LULU..your bags are adorable...very cute!!! I think I wil put the champagne, the homemade chocolate thankyou bars ( made by my lovely mother), the wedding mints and a nice letter thanking them for coming. I have atleast 40 to make..so that will be plenty. I cant afford to do much more.. I like the advil idea..but we'll see what my costs are running!

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

I called my hotel and I have to use bags, its easier for their staff to deliver them and to store them until the rooms are ready. So it works out anyhow..I think if they are flying in, a bag would be easier anyhow. baskets are beautful..I may make myself one!! I deserve champagne and advil!!

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

Now you all will see what an untrusting soul I am... Does anyone worry about any of the contents disappearing if the bags are left for the staff to distribute?
Do any of the hotels allow you to go in and place your own bags the day before or morning of? Please give specific names if possible. We haven't booked yet and are open to suggestions in northern Nassau county.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

Where did you guys get the LI tourism guides? Also, has anyone heard of the hotel charging for distributing the bags? The hotel is saying they charge $1 per bag.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

I got my free LI Guides by calling the
Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau 1-877-FUN-ON-LI or (631) 951-3440.

They limited me to 20 guides and you have to go there to pick them up - they are in Commack (on the LIE b/w Exits 51&52) and someplace else but I forgot where. They will leave them for you with your name on them to be picked up. They are also open on the weekends.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

Not too close to Roslyn but maybe 30 minutes east on the LIE. There is another location but I am not sure where that may be closer to Roslyn - give them a call, they were really nice.

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

My friend had a destination wedding last summer. She used gift bags and had two bottles of water, granola bars, fruit sncaks, cheese & crackers, and a few other items with a note from her and her fiance thanking everyone for coming, etc... Since her guests basically took up the whole hotel we received our bag when we checked in. She wanted to put them in our rooms ahead of time but they were going to charge her extra to do that. I don't think she had any problems with stuff walking away. It was a really nice touch and after traveling it was certainly appreciated. I was able to fold the bag flat and put it in my suitcase to bring home as a memento (sp).

Re: for those doing the hotel gifts..are you using baskets or bags?

WOW- i called yesterday and they are giving me 20- maybe the word is out from this board and they are being bombared with calls! I drove to Rochester with my FI for a wedding in June and we stopped at a rest stop at midnight in Cortland and I proceeded to take about 20 free maps from the rest stop - my FI thought I was insane but so what?!! THEY ARE FREE!!
