Fox Hollow

Hi, I'd like to get feedback about Fox Hollow regarding food quality and service. Do you know what the prices are like for daytime receptions?

that our choice!

Hi there- we are getting married there on 7/2/00. but we booked this back in jan 1999. It would not be fair to quote our rate since I have seen some posts here for 2001 and 2002 weddings at FH and the rates are higher. This is to be expected since they are factoring in inflation and such.

We spoke to tons of people before we starting looking at halls. We asked them for places they went that they hated and why. and the same for places they love. We not only recieved good reviews on FH< but actual raves! and this was from people who have attended either one wedding there or several. I lucked out that one of my co workers got married their last year. SO she allayed my fears: FH does not do tastings period. And they take care of the cake- you choos the filling and the design. SHe said it wasa all very very delicious. and they made her feel like a princess.

'NUF SAID! I *CAN'T* WAIT!!!!!

I am getting married there also - November 2001. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the place. We knew from the minute we walked in that it was exactly what we were looking for.

If you want to email me I will give you the price quotes we received.

Good luck with your planning. Let me know if you decide to book there.

i agree with you fox hollow has a good rep. however we had a very bad experience with a bgt mgr mr mel. he actually told us to shut up while he gave us his 10-15 minute speech, then he said you can ask me questions. my father was appalled!!! we asked to see all of the rooms and he said no, this is the only one for you. my father said we want the garden room and he pushed the briarfox. once he told us the price per person, we questioned him about our cousin who is getting married there in spring of 2001. he got nervous or insulted and said abruptly all deals are different! how rude was that!!! we are not booked anywhere yet, but we unfortunately are thinking twice about fox hollow. after all we are having 200-250 people. so over the weekend we came across a bgt mrg at another hall who used to work at fox hollow. told us why these problems are happening there, and that they have lost alot of their good staff. so now we are searching elsewhere. what a jerk this mel is!!! beware!!!

....to know who she contracted for and who they sent instead (did the contracted photographer get sick? have a family emergency? maybe it wasn't the studios fault? there is a clause in their standard contract that says they can send someone else if the contracted person can not make the appt.)

....can you elaborate on how he was 'independent'?

Donna, I certainly agree with you about Mel and have seen similar posts before. He definitely has poor people skills. It really makes one wonder how he even keeps his job in the "hospitality/service industry." Unfortunately, FH was the only place that could accomodate our specific needs and date, so we booked with them. The banquet manager we dealt with, Mike, was quite nice, so I'm just relying on their overall reputation and the fact that we won't have to deal directly with Mel from now on (I hope!). However, I would like to hear "why these problems are happening there" if you could post the details.

If you walk in the rear entrance (where the cosmetic store is), if you walk past the pretzel booth towards the escalator and turn left, there is a silk flower place that sells headpieces as well. I'm sure there are more place, but those were the most obvious that I saw.

Then, when you are done, if you go to the jewelry section upstairs, look for "Turkan Jewelers" along the left wall in the upper corner. They are honest, and don't try to rip you off (and you can really bargain with them).

Fox Hollow

Hi!

I have been to two weddings at Fox Hollow in the last 2 years. One was fantastic, great service great food, very comfortable. The other was cramped, under staffed and hot! They were both in the same room I believe the Garden Room(overlooks the garden?). The difference was that at the enjoyable wedding there were only 220 people attending. The extra 30 people at the last wedding really put a stress on the quality of the whole wedding. Maybe they were understaffed that day. At the first wedding, I think that there was 1 waiter for every table and that was great! The service was unbelievable! At the more crowded wedding I don't remember a waiter serving us at all. There were lines at the bar, food was not very hot.

If you are having 250 people I don't reccomend Fox Hollow, their Garden Room is the biggest that they have and my experience was not a great one.

sorry about your experience

I work with John Sireci and he has always been a gentleman. See if you can talk with him instead. He is extremely accomdating, but price is something that is not terribly negotiable at this place.

For our cake I just brought them a picture and told them what kind of cake & filling I wanted...if I had more questions or needed to see books, then I would have had to see the bakery people.

I did upgrade my centerpieces - but only upgraded my 1/2 doz to a full doz - I did that over the phone directly w/the florist. If I wanted something different, I would have had to meet with them.

Actually we dealt with Mel and he was extremely nice we brought our parents back with us to see the place and he was very nice to them as well. The Briar Fox room is the biggest room they have because when I asked if we could see all the rooms he took us all around and we saw everything. The briar fox room is used for very large weddings. My girlfriend was suppose to book there but didn't like the briar fox room because there was no windows and she said it was dark. We are having about 135 and in the Garden Room. I am sorry you feel that way but I do hope you find something that is going to accomodate your size of guests.

Whether or not you pay before, if they do a bad job you can try and deal with it after. Unless it is an obviuos breech of contract, Im not sure what type of leverage you would have when complaining if you were expecting a refund. I also think the catering hall's incentive to do a good job is their reputation..there will be plenty of prospective future customers in the house.

Our best bet is probably to relax. Weve spent alot of time and energy picking the right vendors, Im sure most of our instincts will pay off!

We dealt with someone named John. He was very nice. The largest room there is not going to be big enough to serve our needs though. Considering we wanted to book a June 2001 wedding, we found the prices to be "in the ballpark." It's interesting to hear what's going on there though!

I bought the book a week ago from this site. Here's the link.

ED YOU SAID THAT MEL WASN'T NICE, SO DID VICKI, DONNA, AND JUNE SAID THAT ONE AFFAIR WAS GOOD SERVICE AND THE OTHER WAS TERRIBLE..... WELL I JUST HEARD FROM A CATERER NEAR TO THEM THAT THEY MAY BE CONSIDERING TO SELL THEIR CATERING HALL. THEY SAID THAT CONSTRUCTION IS GOING ON NEXT DOOR FOR ANOTHER SCOTTO PROPERTY AND THAT NOW HE MAY NOT NEED THE FOX HOLLOW CATERING HALL. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT WHILE CONSTRUCTION GOES ON IT CAUSES RATS AND RACCOONS AND POSSUMS TO GO ELSEWHERE SUCH AS FOX HOLLOW. WHEN THERE WAS CONSTRUCTION ON JERICHO TPKE IT CAUSED RATS TO GO EVERYWHERE. SOMEONE WHO USED TO WORK AT FOX HOLLOW TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE ALREADY HAVING THESE RAT PROBLEMS BOTH LIVING AND DEAD....DISGUSTING. BUT THEY HEARD THAT THE SCOTTOS ARE SPREADING OUT SO FAR THAT CATERING MEANS NOTHING TO THEM ANYMORE AND THAT ITS NOW SENIOR HOUSING AND BOULDER CREEK REST. AND ROTHMANS, AND DONEY AND BORK??IN GREAT NECK....AND LAS VEGAS...I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I WANT A CATERER WHO ENJOYS BEING A CATERER.....IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE TOO MONEY HUNGRY ESP WITH ALL THE MESSAGES ABOUT PUSHING THEIR VENDORS FOR ANOTHER BUCK! MY INTEREST IS A MORE POLITICAL ONE SO I CAN'T ELABORATE...BUT ALL OF YOU SHOULD BEWARE ABOUT THIS MONEY MAKING SCAM!

I do think that you are misinterpreting his message. There are a few of us on this board, myself included, who happen to agree with the views he has expressed.

It is perfectly acceptable for you to disagree with him, me or anyone else on this board. But calling people names and being down right disrespectful is not very productive and is quite rude.

Fox Hollow and mel a bad match

i agree with you about this guy mel. the wedding i was in over the weekend wasn't as good. service was bad just like the other guy said was it ed or june we couldn't get a glass of water. then my boyfriend ordered a drink and got a beer. he never drinks beer. but mel who originally took care of them never came out to help them when she asked for him she felt he misled them. and said they will write a letter to the owner after their honeymoon.

A response from Jerry Scotto - Fox Hollow Owner

It has been very interesting reading all the comments about Fox Hollow over the past few days. I thought I should answer everyone’s questions so that it would be clear as to what is actually happening.

There are Senior Citizens homes being built on the property west of Fox Hollow. The property is owned by the same company that owns the Fairhaven Apartments. They have owned the property for over 10 years. Their decision to build, although not my favorite, is their decision. As everyone knows, within 10-15 years almost 50% of the population will be over 50 years old, thus, there is a huge demand for such complexes. That is why the property owner is building the site. As a result of this construction, we have met with our neighbors and prepared a plan to plant more than 2 dozen 16 foot trees to buffer our garden from the adjacent property as well as putting curtains up in our ballroom that will block the view of the new site while giving our guests full view of our gardens.

You should go to Chateau Briand. They could definitely accommodate you.

Thanks. I spend most of my spring and fall weekends out there. I avoid it in the summer. I love Cyril's Fish House. It is a little further west of Gurney's on the Napeague Stretch. Great Food and awesome bartender (She makes the best frozen drinks). I love it out there. Did you ever try the food at Shag Wong in town. Great. Well thanks for the info.

As far as how many to get you can put several at each table if you are presenting them in frames or in menu holders. Another way to do it that is nice as well is to have them inserted into the flap of a folded napkin and lay them on top of the plate at each place setting. In this case you would need one per person.
