Friends visiting favorite restaurant?

When you are telling people where to go or visit, what restaurant are you recommending? I am trying to think of ones for both NYC and Long Island... all different types, fun, romantic, whatever, that are unique. Suggestions?
Thanks! BTW, almost anywhere in LI is fine, some people are staying near Nassau, some are staying all the way out east at my parents.

Re: Family and Friends visiting-restaurant?

Well, I was trying to think of italian because I think NY has the best, but then I thought about places like 56th Fighters Club that would be fun. Anyone have a favorite maybe?

Re: Family and Friends visiting-restaurant?

La Pace is a great Italian Restaurant in Glen Cove.
Its a bit pricey but great for a couple to go to for a great meal and some wine.

On a casual scale,I love Greenfields in Farmingale.
That is a Brazilian Restaurant with a great salad bar and all you can eat as they come around continually with all different great meats from sausages & roast beef to exotic foods like ostrich.
(I personally stick with the basics.)

Re: Family and Friends visiting-restaurant?

Greenfields is great! Its one set price for each person no matter how much you eat.You just pay extra for drinks and desserts. That could really add up on the bills. If you go,let me know what you think.

Re: Family and Friends visiting-restaurant?

Nassau - I love Amalfi's (Italian) in Sea Cliff and Sarin (Thai) in Glen Cove / Greenvale (right on Glen Cove Rd just north of Northern Blvd).
Out East - Suffolk - Not sure where you are looking but some good places out on the north shore are Margarita Grill (mexican) and Blue Hanu (Hawaiian) in Huntington, H20 (mostly seafood) and Casa Rustica (Italian) in Smithtown, Bella Vita Grill (Italian-ish) in St. James, Curry Club (Indian) in Stony Brook, Pasta Pasta in Port Jefferson.
Any more specifics on location? That might help -
(Can you tell I like to eat out? )

Re: Family and Friends visiting-restaurant?

Well, for Italian you should definitely take them to the Olive Garden. That's where Italian people take their family when they come to visit from Italy!

I'm sorry, I love the Olive Garden, but that commercial is so ridiculous!

ok, I am being sarcastic and not at all helpful. For really yummy Italian, hands down my favorite place is Tony DeNapoli's in NYC (upper east side, 2nd ave and 82nd St - they were also going to open a second location in the city, but I'm not sure where). Good luck!

I just checked out Casa Rustica in Smithtown and newsday gave them an 'outstanding' review! Thanks Meg, I can't wait to try their penne a la vodka.
