Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

Has anyone taken pictures at Gardiner County Park? We were driving by today & it looks like a nice place. Do you need a permit? Is there a fee? Is it very nice?

Any pictures?

Thanks.

Re: Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

correct me if I am wrong, but I think that is the name of the 'dog park'. It is south of Montauk highway. Is a beautiful park, we walk out dog there, guess you should watch where you step though.

Re: Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

Grace, yes it is on the South side of Montauk Hwy in Bayshore. Do you know if you need a permit to park there?

Are there a lot of places to take pics?

Thanks.

Re: Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

Hi - you don't need a permit to park there and I doubt there is a fee because there is no office or anything. You could always call the town of Islip to make sure you are allowed to. It's not a bad spot for pics but it is a dog park and can get pretty crowded on a nice weekend day.

Have you considered Argyle Lake in Babylon?

Re: Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

Last time I was there I stepped in dog poop, so I wouldn't reccomend it. I think that Argyle Lake, or the Brightwaters canal would be awesome to take pictures. There is a small park next to the Brightwaters canal that banned dogs about 2 years ago and its right on the water and really pretty.

Re: Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

Are you going for the woods as your background or the bay? You could do either at Gardiner's Park, but you'd be really limited 'beach wise' since there isn't much bay front area that you can walk on.

You don't need to pay anything or get a permit, but you do need to be careful about where you step. Instead of heading toward the right for the main walk, you can head left for the lesser used trails (you won't get lost).
If you walk straight down the main path (less than one mile), you'll hit the Great South Bay - but if you're going for the beachy look, you're better off at Captree State Park.

Re: Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore?

No cost to park, but as others have mentioned it is a dog park. People are supposed to clean up after their dog, but they don't always.

Thank you so much! It's going much slower now but I'm determined!!!

We're actually going for a forest/tree look--our hall is on the water & FH doesn't want 'the beach'.

Thanks for the help ladies.
