Honestly, growing up in LI I had to drive on the LIE so got over that fear quickly. But - now that I am in Queens I find a little more comfort taking Northern State since commercial traffic is not allowed. I feel a little better...maybe you could start with a road like that.

I have to take the LIE to work everyday. I took the service road for awhile but that got old. Now, I gun it on the ramp and put on my blinker and go!!
