Congrats debbie!!! It is really really gorgeous!! I love all demetrios dresses- but yours is so beautiful!! I have a few in mind - but i dont remember seeing that one- LOVE IT!! You will look like a princess!!!

By the way, I went to Flowerama also. (Thanks for the referral!) The lady there was so nice (in Elmont). She had some great dresses at great prices- there were two others that I tried on that were gorgeous (and not expensive) but even though they looked incredible, they were not me- not my personality.
They did not have the one I ended up buying, although she said she can give me a quote if I faxed her a picture and order the dress.

Girls: I need help with our Greek Honeymoon.

We have our hotel in Crete, now we need a hotel in Santorini and in Athens.

For Athens, I think we're going to go with the Intercontinental--Any other ideas?

For Santorini, we found this one on the web that we like. Have you girls heard of this hotel? Any good/bad feedback. Any other recommendations for hotels in Santorini?

The Intercontinental hotel in athens is awesome! I had lunch there a few years ago... and I was very impressed at the time.

Peter's mom went to her travel agent today and the travel agent suggested a hotel called 'Plaka Athena' or something like that in Athens. She said it was a luxury hotel and in a great location. Anyone heard of this one?

Plaka is the hip place of Greece... kind of like the mix between the village and the upper east side (looks similar to the village and is all artsy and cultural... and a bit snobby like east side). It's close to the acropolis and lots of restaurants. Definitely a neighborhood worth checking out.

I have stayed at the Grande Bretagne in Athens. I didn't think it was anything special.

Athens Plaza looked nice from the lobby.

But I like the St. George in Kolonaki. On my last trip I stayed there. It was lovely and the pool on the roof was perfect.

There was another that I wanted to stay in, but it was undergoing renovations last year for the upcoming games. Also, has pool on the roof. Can't recall its name, oh its the Electra Palace.

Otherwise, I would stay outside of Athens at the Astir Palace in Vouliagmeni.

Marcela - I would take Eleni's idea about staying in Vouliagmeni! It's a stone throw from Glyfada which reminds me so much of America! Applebee's is there and Dunkin Donuts and it's quiet - a much more yuppy crowd than Athens which is a business districs as well as loud. You can take a bus from Glyfada to Athens for a day or two - it's about a 35 minute ride.

The hotels in Vouliagmeni are great and they are by the beach, Astir hotel is one of the best... but if I was going to Athens (for the first time) and wanted to do some sight-seeing and to get a real feel for Athens, I would stay in the center of Athens, especially if it's only for a couple of days. JMO

So that's what my decision would be based on- have you been to Athens before and how long are you staying?

The area Lenitsa mentioned, Kolonaki, is a more upscale neighborhood and is still relatively close to everything. Maybe this is not the perfect comparison, but Kolonaki is like the 5th Avenue of Athens.

I am not sure what the Intercontinental neighborhood is like... I think it's very busy during the day ... there are a lot of shops and food and convenient to the acropolis. And if you take a car ride 15 minutes on that road, you can see all the transvestite hookers (Syggrou). But don't let that stop you... it's far away, it's busy where you are... I gues like times square?

Sorry for all the comparisons... do you ladies agree with them?

I've never stayed in any of the hotels in Greece - but, i get the odyssey magazine and i remember one having a review of a whole bunch of hotels - I'll try to find it and let you know Marcela.

Hey girls! THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your suggestions!!

We would LOVE to stay by the beach in Athens, however, we really don't have a lot of time there (2 days) and I have never been there, so we want to be in the City and be close to everything.

Oh and the hotel the travel agent recommended in Athens is not Plaka, it's Plaza Athenium or Athena Plaza, something like that. FMIL didn't write the name down and I did a search on the internet and can't find it. I'll just ask the travel agent myself when she calls with the prices. Another hotel that we liked was the Divani Caravel, but there are no rooms left According to the travel agent, the government has blocked off hotels for their use for the Olympics.
