Greekys, Girls Marrying Greeks and Girls who know Greek Wedings, etc.

Does the Koumbara HAVE TO wear a different dress than the maid of honor/rest of the bridal party?

This was my idea:
4 brides maids - navy with black detail dresses
My sister and Koumbara - navy with cream detail dresses

Now my choice for Koumbara says, 'she wears something completely different, most of the time the same color.'

I said, 'my only problem with that is i didn't want to make my sister's status less than the koumbara. i wanted it to be like 2 maids of honor, thats why i was thinking they'd wear the same dress.'

She said, 'i understand your concern about the sister thing, but thats how its done in a greek wedding. most weddings dont have both, but ive been to some that do and typically the maid of honor wears a variation of the bridesmaids dress and the Koumbara has something different.'

MUST I DO THIS?! My Mom is going to be soooo upset if I downplay my sister's role!

Re: Greekys, Girls Marrying Greeks and Girls who know Greek Wedings, etc.

I am not sure.......

I was in my cousins BP and I was her koumbara....she didn't make me wear anything different.......her sister (MOH) wore a diff dress and me and the other BM (eventhough I was the koumbara) wore teh same ones.........

I am not positive though.....

Re: Greekys, Girls Marrying Greeks and Girls who know Greek Wedings, etc.

I would have her and your sister in the same otherwise, its kinda like SHES your ONLY moh and your sister will look like a BM.......

besides, in the program, it will list her as the koumbara and she will be doing the crowns so people will know her importance level.....I would keep your sis and her in the SAME dress, which is diff from the other girls!

Re: Greekys, Girls Marrying Greeks and Girls who know Greek Wedings, etc.

THANK YOU!!! Even FH agrees with you. I am soooo thankful he's backing me up!

This girl is a close friend and also my Nona, but sometimes she's gets so stuck on certain things! I am telling her that we're not changing it. Let's see how that goes! I told Stephen that if she doesn't like it, we'll ask someone else. We have a few options.

Re: Greekys, Girls Marrying Greeks and Girls who know Greek Wedings, etc.

shes lucky to be in your BP at all AND to be wearing the same dress as your MOH! Many koumbari aren't even in the BP at all, so for her to be in it is nice enough AND to be wearing the MOH is even nicer.....

tell her to scratch it if she doesn't like it

Thank you for that!!
I just said to her, 'if you and chris were asked to be the koumbaroi, would you not be in agreement if we asked you to wear the same dresses/suits as the best man and maid of honor? you and the maid of honor wear different from others and chris can wear a different vest/tie.'

Let's see what happens!

the koumbara usually wears whatever she wants to wear you dont pick it

i have 5 bridesmaids in the same dress, my MOH in a completely different dress but same color, and my koumbara is wearing whatever she wants

honestly in greek weddings the koumbara or koumbaro is the most important.... the moh is an american thing but a lot of people now just combine the two, but even so the koumbaroi have very important roles in the actual ceremony.... and later they baptize the first child

Yeah, i know about that and my opinion is that the MOH is important for some reasons and the Koumbaroi is important for other reasons. This sets them apart from the rest of the bridal party. I thought the happy medium would be to put them in the same dress as each other , but different from the rest of the BP. Chrissy, my choice for Koumbara, would also be part of my BP because she's our good friend. I'd want her in their dress.

I asked her what she thought about having a diff color than my sister. The BP's detail color would be black, my sister would be cream and Chrissy would be silver or platinum. Let's see what she says. FH and I want to stick to this line of thinking. Since it's a mixed wedding, there has to be some give and take.

Re: Greekys, Girls Marrying Greeks and Girls who know Greek Wedings, etc.

too sick to read through everything..but tell ur lil greek koumbara to STFU. she will wear what YOU TELL HER TO WEAR. she is still 'Sticking out' i am sooooooooooooooooo sick of these greek girls wanting these 'titles' all for the wrong reasons. (maybe im jumping the gun) but seriously.. its not about her, its about YOU.
i was my bros koumbara.. i blended in with alllllllllllllllllllll the bms.. even her moh wore a bm dress..

her time will shine when shes doing the stefana..and im sure being that shes greek, eeeeeeeeeevery1 will know shes the koumbaraa cuz they allllllllll talk about it.

tell her to get a grip.

thanks!

yeah that sounds like a good compromise, as long as your moh and koumbara stand out

We haven't chose our BP dresses yet, but I'm prob having my koumbara match my BM's and my MOH is having a diff color sash.

I think you can do whatever you want. I am allowing my koumbara to wear whatever she wants . I am also someones koumbara and she also let me wear whatever I wanted.
I guess because 'technically' a koumbara is not really a 'bridal party' member. There are no bridal party's in Greece. But I have also seen the koumbara wear a bridesmaids dress. So the answer is do whatever you want.

This is absolutely true, though the meaning gets lost nowadays.
