Yes. It is very old school though. I dont think people do it anymore.

I know that Italian families used to make the grandmother carry the bag and collect the cards.

Yes.. for sure! I remember my cousins and sister doing this ... long while back though. It was very popular and then card boxes replaced that idea. It is convenient rather than holding the cards in your hand when you make your rounds, you can just put them in the bag. I don't think I am doing it, but I have def. seen it!!

Yes I have heard of it and saw it years ago but I haven't seen it at any recent weddings.

yes for sure in my family we refer to it in italian by 'la busta' and its always tradition that the oldest grandmother holds it all night that just might be my family's weird tradition. we pass around the same white silk bag and each cousin has their married initials and wedding date embroidered on it. its a sentimental thing which is why as nice as the birdcages and cardboxes are i couldnt never not use the bag.

yes definitely - it's an italian tradition.

it's called a scafadone (spelling?) bag and my aunt keeps telling me she's going to be in charge of it at the wedding so no one steals anything lol even though I have told her 10x we are having a card box lol

Yes!! Of course. It is an old Italian thing.
If you have ever seen the movie Goodfellas, Lorraine Bracco carries it around at their wedding.
I think some people still use it. If my grandmother were still alive I would do it just so she could carry it around all night!

My mom mentioned it to me this evening and she thought I was nuts when I told her I had no clue what she was talking about. On the flip side, she didn't know about the card box!! She told me she used one, my aunts did, my grandmother did (and we're faaaaaaaaarrrrrrr from Italian). She's scared that someone could swipe the cardbox...

I'm Italian and for my first wedding was in 1997 and I carried the 'busta' bag. For this wedding, I'm modernizing with a card box.

yes.. i am actually using one haha. My grandmother is old school italian and the call it a 'busta bag'. My mother still had hers from her wedding, so my grandmother will be holding it at my wedding. She is tough so no one will mess with her haha.
