Re: Having children at wedding??

im having my daughter who will be on the dance floor all night shes 2 and id never want my wedding without her there! plus shes my FG!
my other FG is my neice, i dont mind her being there but id hope my sister would have someone there at 1 point to pick her up so she can go home.

our RB is the best mans son, we were already told he wont be at the reception at all. But i did tell them thats their choice but id like him there for introductions. So he will be there for CH and intros and then hes going home!

no other kids will be there......i do have a few younger cousins btw 6-8 but as of now they will not be attending!

Re: Having children at wedding??

Ok, odd man out again. I am by no means having kids at my wedding.

I have 7 nieces and nephews (one of whom is my goddaughter). And not one, not a single one is invited.

I told my sisters that they can not come and only one gave me a problem with it. I told her loving but firmly that she did what she wanted at her wedding (no kids and she had 20+ kids b/w her and her husband)and I will do what I want.

It was touch and go for a bit with her feelings but in the end, it was my choice.

Re: Having children at wedding??

what does your FH say?

I don't want kids at my wedding - except our 8 y/o Jr. Groomsman and 3 y/o ringbearer. That's it. No other kids.

Ya know... some parents don't want to bring their own kids to weddings!

Plus, who is your FMIL to tell you who to invite if she's not paying - AND it's not her wedding?? I still don't get it...

Re: Having children at wedding??

We are only having 2 - our FG & RB - my niece and nephew. I have already had one of my cousins from OOT ask my mom if she could bring her two sons (who are 6 & 8). My mom told her nicely that I am not having any other children at the wedding aside from those in the bridal party. It didn't go over too well, but my attitude is she'll get over it.

Re: Having children at wedding??

only those in the bridal party are coming to the reception, Both my FH and I have neices/nephews under the age of 3....they aren't coming to the wedding b/c it would be too much of a hassle for their parents, they are happy about it!!

Re: Having children at wedding??

I had children in the bridal party and then their siblings- plus DHs brother is 9 years old... and we couldnt have my cousins and not his two... so we had a total of 12 kids from ages 5-13

I wanted them there-i felt like it wouldnt be the same without them there... we are all very close...

I would NOT change them being there- BUT I would have hired a babysitter who would take care of them ... the intelligent parents sent their kids to the hotel room- (they ALL had hotel rooms) with an older relative who was tired... BUT some decided NOT to...

I have to be honest, I did not notice them being a pain in the butt... they were dancing and excited and being kids... BUT apparently they were annoying some of the other guests by running around. I did not notice this because it was not near me and also my mind was NOT on them...

I suggest hiring someone to 'entertain' them

Re: Having children at wedding??

I am having children. I have too many kids in my family that I would want to celebrate. I dont want to leave them out because I feel bad. I may not have the REALLY little ones but anyone 6 yrs old and older are invited. It is up to the parents to decide what they want to do.

Re: Having children at wedding??

i had kids at my wedding because DH and I LOVE kids and wouldnt have had it any other way! We left it up to the guests if they wanted to bring their kids, all were invited. But alot didnt want to bring their children because they wanted to relax and have a good time. So there were only about 8 kids there that night.

Re: Having children at wedding??

I had a strict no children rule. 2 entire parts of DH family did not come b/c they were insulted. Oh well Those 2 cousins each have 4 yes 4 friggin kids, all under the age of 14. Um, no - stay home.

I knew that there would be a lot of drinking, and I just dont think the younger kids needed to be there. JMHO.

I have about 30 kids ranging from 3-14 that will be at the wedding. Most of the are my first cousins so I don't mind that they will be there.

Re: Having children at wedding??

I am having four children at our wedding-our FG (6 1/2 at time of wedding), RB (6 1/2) and two Jr BM (8 & 9). There are just too many children in my family to ask them ALL to come.

If you are paying for the wedding, I think you and FH should make the decision. SO many people are going to be telling you what you SHOULD do. But the fact of the matter is it's your wedding and you need to do what you want.

Re: Having children at wedding??

Okay...this is a little long...but we have a pretty unique solution...so stick with me......

My 2 children are part of the bridal party, and this is a special day for them, too, so they will be there...but with a babysitter on hand to keep an eye on my very energetic 3 yr old son.

A couple of neices I felt I could not be without are jr. bridesmaids, so they are invited, too.....a nice way to keep them on the guest list when we are telling the rest of the world 'no kids'

Here's the twist......

Now.......fh has a huge family.....HUGE.....and there are quite a few kids. What they do in their family is pretty cool.....and we will do as well......

the families all come to the ceremony, and then they bring the children to the cocktail hour....kids get dressed up, have a couple of shirley temples and some pigs in a blankets....then, after cocktail hour, they have one of the limos take the kids....with the older but under 18 cousins who are not invited, as well ....back to one family member's house, where they all get to hang out together, have their own party (with babysitters of course) full of movies and snacks that every family contributes......and will end up having a huge slumber party at that house....moms & dads pick up in the am.

Kids are happy....they got to see the place, so the mystery is gone....then they have a huge parent free slumber party, and they get to ride in a limo!!!

Parents can all relax, drink & be merry, cause the kids are all sleeping over someone's house...

Only complications so far are.....had to figure out pricing with catering hall, about kids for 1 hour....adding trays of chicken fingers, etc to the spread just for them....and we'll have to see what happens with the limo co....haven't gotten to that yet.

But I DO LOVE the plan!!!!

I'm having very few kids (5 I think), mostly just FH's first cousins and a few of his first cousin's kids.

Great plan- it's very well thought out!!! My one problem with it is that FH's brother, who has 3 kids- lives in Suffolk and our ceremony & reception are in Queens! So if they were to come to the CH, that's a long drive to get them home! Also....his brother is very quirky about other people driving his kids around....FH's parents weren't even allowed to drive them anywhere...and that's their grandkids!!!

I kind of think when the time comes closer to the wedding I'll ask the FBIL's & FSIL's if they were intending on finding a babysitter. If for some reason they tell us they want the kids there or they're not sure about who can watch them....then me & FH will decide what to do.....but again, I really don't want FMIL to be part of our decision.

Thanks ladies!!
