I love the idea of the reed diffuser. They're not cheap. Are you doing 1 per person or 1 per couple? I'm doing cinnamon sticks, incense and candles as my favor but I'm doing 1 per couple.

everyone could use a letter opener but not everyone may know what to do with a reed diffuser

The reed diffuser is a cute idea but i wouldnt use it - i have 3 cats and i would be too paranoid that it would spill over or that they would lick the reeds - i would love a letter opener - i dont think that i know anyone that even has a letter opener to tell you the truth - and the possibilities are endless of how you could personalize them
