You can have groups , you just have to call the parks office.
We used to have this in Elementary school, I think at Eisenhauer the whole elementray school chorus would go.
And my brothers soccer league did this when when we were little ( I think at Bethpapge state park) but they were very organized & had events & stuff.

And my familyis anti-socail, but oen year instead of a block party my neighbors had a block picinc at Bethpage State park. So they weren't a real offical group or anything & they did it.

I say just a plain old BBQ, so people can mingle.
and yes, it would be a great idea for the people that have kids.

i like the BBQ idea alot, but I would caution against making it too kid friendly. I have nothing against kids, hope to have my own someday, but I think if you promote this as a 'family' event, those of us who do not have kids yet will feel awkward coming.

I still really like the Met-Yankee softball game idea, as opposed to a three-legged race

I also love kids, don't get me wrong. Yet I feel as though a lot of us who do not have children yet might be reluctant to attend an event being touted as 'kid friendly' for fear there would be nothing for us to do perhaps?

Hey - I am just speaking for myself here. I know you can't have it both ways, and that we are a diverse group of invidiuals here. In which case I totally understand the predicament, and would probably beg off in this particular scenario.

My idea is to coordinate some activities for the kids and some for the adults, so that there is a good balance. Have like a craft table for the kids to keep them entertained. Have organized sports and stuff for the adults. I've pulled it off before and I'll do my best to do it again (with T's co-management ).

I think if there was enough people there, the balance would be good because there would be plenty with or without kiddos.

Maybe, depedong on the number of kids, you could ahve a separate kiddie area, and have someone (hire someone) to entertain/supervise the kids. I'm sure there are plenty of college kids looking for some extra $$

ETAL: i agree with don, I definitel;y wouldnlt go to a BBQ where I couldn't drink etc..I don't eat meat, so te only appeal of a BBQ for me is a few nice colld bud lights

I have been there, done that Don!! I always feel like a total outsider at events such as those where DH & I are the lone individuals who don't have children... its a weird position to be in

Sharon - your intentions are great and you rock - and you know I STILL must meet you! But we'll probably have to arrange something another time .. I certainly don't expect you to change a plan your coming up with, just wanted to point out that some folks might not be down with a kid-friendly GTG

Can't you rent one? Remember the guy who was offering his grandaughter to be a flower girl at anyone's wedding for a fee? See if you can user her for the BBQ!

Well, as a parent, you take your chances anywhere you go that someone will be 'classless' in front of your kid (curse/swear). You can't keep them in a bubble forever. As long as your child knows right or wrong, there shouldn't be an issue. And I didn't see you guys going bananas at the WOTY (unless you were toning it down for the day ). I think they'll be enough activities that will keep the kids separate from the cursing/drinking huligan adults

Sharon, I think the BBQ is a great idea! I like the idea of separate activities for the kids and adults. I love kids, so even though I don't have them, I'll probably have more fun playing with other people's kids!!
