Because most of us are not saying ..They are DONE with their teams.or something like what your FH said above.... Something that is VERY COMMON with MET fans...
So they need a 7-8 months to recover from the previous season..
And unlike the METS we usually don't end on such a sour note...
It appears to me that due to the over anticipation in the may-june months..Met fans get that hope (which is more than the average team, except maybe Boston) and when that hope is lost/shattered they way it happens for the MET fans they get that hopelessness. forget them attitude...

All teams who are in third place or lower Im sure have given up on their teams by now. Yankees fans are in high spirits because they are in first place

I am still a Met fan, always will be but yes the season is gone, so why am I going to waste my time and watch the game. Would you watch the games if the Yankees were in last place?

I watch the team no matter how much they suck.. and right now the whole team is a Hoover vacuum cleaner.

They are my losers and I am faithful to them even in spite of the fact that they have played like sh!t for about a month and half (which KILLED the WHOLE season). And I hate losing. It pisses me off... I yell at them constantly...

But someday.. they will turn it around.

And I'll be there.......

If I worked for the Yanks.. I would avoid George in the morning though. :-O

99% chance that the Yanks still have a postseason. (I'm Irish and I can't leave out Murphy's law... haha)

OK, I'm gonna do 2 responses here, one as 'don the yankee basher' and one as 'don the objective fan'

The Yankee basher in me loved last night and the fact that George and Derek left the stadium with their tails tucked between their legs with Boston closing in.

The objective fan in me wants to respond to the comments made about the met fans having too many expectations and then giving up when we fail. I think the point everyone is missing is that this is New York, the biggest and sports market in the U.S., possibly the world. There are expectations that come along with that, to be the best. Plus, from a Met fan perspective, all we get are the Yankees crammed down on our throats, because admittedly, they have played better than us in the last 10 years. So, when the Mets do well, it's a chance for us to get excited and have hope that 'this year' we'll beat the Yankees, or 'this year' the Yankees aren't the ONLY team in NY. Because the media makes it seem this way sometimes. Watch spring training coverage, when things are all equal and not a game has been played. The Yankees will get the majority of the sportscast, while the Mets will be a 1 minute update before it's 'back to you Jim', So when the Mets do well, there's a HOPE that we can break the stigma of 'only 1 NY team'

Yes, we've failed every time, but that's what makes baseball great -- the competition. As much as I hate the Yanks, without them, there'd be no rivalry and NY baseball would be boring.

I don't know how many of you saw the Superbowl commercial with Parcells singing 'The Sun will come out Tomorrow' That'll be the song the Mets will be singing in October and after the World Series, we'll all be tied for first again. And I'll be back with them. As mad as I get, I can't turn my back on em.

There will be no bashing from this Mets fan.

Just one thing about last night's game...

The Yanks just couldn't get the running game going and when they had to throw.. wel.. their weakness was exposed. hehe

It only would have been better if Westbrook could have held that no-hitter.

I am not a huge baseball fan but DH got really good seats to the Yankee game and it just happened that is was LAST NIGHT!!!!! Let me tell you how boring that game was!!!

The fans were cheering when the Yankees got off the field...the Indian half of the innings were so long...the fans were cheering when the Indians got the last home run!! Sitting at the game last night I was annoyed because I had this guy blocking my view of home plate with his head, now that I think about it, I wasn't missing much, was I?

The stands were so empty by the end of the game, there was no traffic leaving. I was looking forward to getting a big pretzel when I left but they were sold out all the people who left 3 innings before me got to them first .
