How heavy is your cake topper

I need to buy a castle cake topper and found the perfect one on Ebay but it weighs almost 4lbs. This seems quite heavy to me. How much does your cake toppers weigh? I need to have the topper on the cake-it can not be set on the table next to the cake. The castle really makes the cake-w/o it the cake would be very boring. Do you think 4 lbs is too heavy? I was told that the baker can always make a mock top layer that uses wooden pegs to support the topper or something like that-has anyone heard of this or used something like this?

Re: How heavy is your cake topper

I think 4 pounds would be WAY too heavy to put on top of a cake. Think of a 4 pound weight at the gym - that would crush a cake. I'd try to find something much, much lighter.

Re: How heavy is your cake topper

Just wondering, why does the cake topper have to be on the cake?

I am putting mine next to my cake.

I don't know how to post pics but above is the link to pic of the cake-IMO it really needs the topper on top.

Re: How heavy is your cake topper

4 lbs is definately too heavy to just be put on top of a cake, but maybe ask the cake baker and see if they can do something to support it.

Or if you are just worried abotu the cake looking plain without it, what about flowers or something on top..maybe with a crystal monogram or some other kind of cake jewelry, and then placing the castle next to it ont he table?

Re: How heavy is your cake topper

why not have a fondant bow or flowers on top? Then you don't need a topper, and the cake is dressed up....

BTW, this cake is beautiful.

Look in craft stores, you might be able to find something lighter and made for a cake.
