We did. we are just now waiting for the seller of the house we are trying to buy to send the contracts back to our attorney. ::::fingers crossed:::

We figured out that what we spent in rent actually exceeded what we put down as a deposit on this house (we got first-time buyer privilages) by about $7,000. Plus we love having a lot of pets - which is super hard while renting, and we need a bit more privacy at this point.

I've been renting for 9 years, DH moved in with me. We are now in the process of purchasing a co-op, once we resolve an issue with the building.
I wish I would have thought about buying a few years back when the apts. in my neighborhood were less than $100K for a 2 bedroom as opposed to the now asking price of $300-400K! I could have made a nice chunk of change and maybe we'd be able to buy a house instead

Its ok if you have to rent ya know. There is nothing wrong with it.

In fact... renting for a year or two is sometimes better than buying a house or co-op for a year and then having to sell.

I know what you mean! What is the rush? Can't i just plan a wedding and not have to worry about closing costs too? What happened to getting married and the buying a house after a few years? What pressure we have!

We have been renting for 4 years, married for 1 1/2 years, closing on our house in the next 2 weeks (HOPFULLY).

We've been renting all this time. Our anniversary just passed in February and we are getting ready to sign a contract on a house this week.

I agree. I hate when people say that renting is throwing your money away. DH and I have been renting for 8 months, and he was renting for a year before that (Before that he owned a condo) and we have saved plenty of money.

I agree too. We've been married since Oct '03 and really love where we live. Our landlords are the greatest, and while we'd love to have our own home, we're not really in a huge rush. We have a second bedroom which can be a nursery if needed in the future. The only thing I do miss is my own washer/dryer. I hate schleping every week!!

sounds exactly like our situation--the laundry thing does get old real quick-@ least I go to my parent's house though-which usually includes a free meal too ahahah

in June it will be 2 years that we're renting (we've been married for just over 2 months).

Yes, i want a house... one day. But i love where i live, our landlords are perfect (just wish i could have a puppy, but i can deal with sacrificing that for now). and i agree about the laundry.. but we're lazy and we just drop it off at the laundromat (its worth the little bit extra for them to save me all that time/ energy).

i sometimes feel like theres something wrong with me, b/c everyone is on the house kick (and the Baby kick)-- we're on neither right now, i just want to enjoy being married, and buying things for myself (after just saving for a year for our wedding, it feels nice to be able to indulge again). I have the rest of my life to have mortgage payments... Im in no rush to get started on them right now
