Re: How much is your wedding costing?
we're looking at about 35 K for 150 people... I suck at DIY, so we've had to buy everything already made. We were forced into having a Thurs night reception b/c of when my FH can get off work (he's doing his residency) and when I have med school, so anything later in that week would have made us cut into our honeymoon, and I was not about to do that!
Turns out we saved A LOT with the Thurs night thing because we've gotten deals from every vendor and were able to have the stuff we realy wanted (photos, flowers, carribbean cocktail hour and vienese) without breaking the budget. I know a Thurs night isn't for everyone, but it's def a way to save some serious cash if you wanted to. It works for us cuz all our friends are doctors (so we weekend means nothing to them cuz they're never off anyways) or teachers who have the summers off.....

Re: How much is your wedding costing?
Thanks, it seems to be the average, but I am getting a little scared we are spending too much on the RH
That alone is going to cost anywhere from 25-28k

The two biggest things are how many people you're inviting, and where you have the reception. Third is what time of year and what day of the week. If you want to get married on a Saturday between May and October, at anything over a VFW hall, and invite 200 people, yes, you're going to pay a lot for it. After that, you can make choices--the expensive choice, or the budget one. The $5,000 gown or the $1,000 gown, for example. That stuff adds up fast.
I totally agree. Most of our budget was sent on the RH and then we did very well on everything else. We actually came in right around what we thought it was going to cost which made us very happy!
We had a Saturday night wedding in November and we had about 210 guests. We spend about 50K for everything (including HM, tips, gifts for BP and parents, everything).

I am aiming for 35k. We are doing our invites, programs, placecards and menus as DIY. That will include RH, Photog, Llmo, Florist, DJ, dress, tux, honeymoon.

Re: How much is your wedding costing?
Hopefully we will only have to pay for the 150 minimum so if thats what happens, we will probably come in around 28-30k which is more then I want but we really dont have much choice.

Re: How much is your wedding costing?
Set a budget and stick to it!Prioritize! Guests often remember the food and music for dancing. I also think pictures are important because that's how you capture memories. This way you can allocate you money towards your priorities
Keep you guest list under control. The simplist way to keep costs down. If you can cut 10 people at 100pp that's $1000 plus the cost of the centerpiece, the server, any rentals for china, silverware, chairs or the table, 10 less favors, 10 less invites etc...

Re: How much is your wedding costing?
we thought we got everything so cheap! I really hunted around for the best prices on everything. BUT after we added all the little extras in (DH kept track of EVERYTHING on a spreadsheet)... it was over 50K, that was including the honeymoon, rings, BP gifts, etc.Welcome New Vendors
