Re: I can't believe...

that is very weird about the insurance thing...ALL business have to have this insurance...honestly youre not even supposed to really be part of the process, my vendors and RH worked it out amongst themselves with the whole insurance thing, the vendors faxed my RH their insurance, some didnt have to bc they have worked with the RH already so had the info already. I dont even know when they did it but they did it, it wasnt something i had to ask my vendors to do. They are wedding vendors and know the procedure...for my e-party i didnt know about this at first so i asked my dj about the insurance and asked what i need to do and they just said not to worry that they will give it to the RH and i didnt have to do anything

I didnt have any problems with a vendor and insurance, if they are saying no then walk away bc i dont understand why they wouldn't have insurance

Grrr.... maybe thats y their prices were so low....

Very possible-I would stay away from those, your RH will not let them in the door if they dont have it.
Good Luck

Re: I can't believe...

Thank you, now i know to be careful. I'll make sure to book people who's business isnt illegal... I guess my RH doesnt want to do the insurance thing themselves because they state in their papers that I have to ask them for it and that I have to give it to them so that they can put it on my file. what a headache!

Re: I can't believe...

Sounds pretty normal. Also, don't worry about the valid certificate of insurance. Any reputable company will have this, its pretty customary. I am paying $5,500, but that also includes video and a little more than what you are getting...

FM if you want details.

Re: I can't believe...

I'm paying a little over $5K for 2 photographers on the day of the wedding including a regular photographer and a photojournalist, along with a videographer. My package comes with the magazine style album with 70 pictures, 2 parent albums, some enlarged photos, thank you photos, and all proofs on a cd in high resolution.

I think you can do better for that price if you're on a budget. I know I was on a budget, but I didn't have to break the bank for a good photographer either.

As for the Certificate of Insurance, that's for pure liability purposes. If you're interested in a vendor, that would be one of the first questions I would ask them. If the don't have it, run! Every reputable/legal vendor should have it. Vendors usually takes care of that kind of stuff for you on their own. They'll ask you for the name of your banquet manager, and they'll fax over the insurance. Does it really matter if you personally handed in the insurance for them to file? Wouldn't they just do the same 'filing' if the vendors sent to them as well?
Speak to your banquet manager about this, and if all fails, sounds to me like you have a lazy banquet manager lol...ask to work with someone else.

Re: I can't believe...

That is definitely the average price. However, I don't like when people aren't upfront with me. If they did not tell you about that 'hidden cost' of binding the albums during your first visit, I'd reconsider. Whoever you decide on, just make sure you look over the contract thoroughly. For example, I made a deal with my photog + video., so I made sure she included that info on the contract. I am paying 6k for

Complete wedding day coverage
One 12 x 12 Library Bound Album w/ 50 Images
2 parent albums - 6x9 clone digital albums
100 Custom Printed Thank you cards
2 - 8x10 Custom Portrait
Complete set of proofs in color and B&W Complete set of Digital High Res files on DVD Complete set of files displayed on private website
Complete camera coverage of wedding day
Digital editing
3 - DVD Copies

FM if you are interested in the vendor. If you are critical about photography, you will LOVE her work.
Oh, and as far as digital/traditional albums. I looked at a few photogs and they said it's the same price. They said digital is 50 bucks more, but they aren't trying to make a buck in that department so whichever one I wanted I would pay the same price.

Re: I can't believe...

The photographer should have their own insurance- if not, I would not deal with them. The insurance thing goes for all of your vendors that will be at the hall- DJ, florist, etc.

I think that the price isn't bad at all- is that including the day coverage?

yes, i did say that for 4,200 dollars i only get 2 parent albums and my album.

I paid that for my photographer alone for the day with another photographer . I also had to purchase some album choices.
For 1800 more I purchased the upgraded package of 80 images in a cocktail book.

at the end of the day - going through 1000 images later I had trouble narrowing it down to just 80 images - I ended up with 115. So my balance was $3,400 more and that is W/out parent albums

just to give you an idea.

It is all relative as to the amount of images you would want in your album or how fancy you end up going.

How about getting the cd from the photographer and making your own parent albums. to save some money. Many girls have done it on here - They actually come out quite wonderful

Re: I can't believe...

I am getting the digital pics so the album looks like a scrapbook with color splashes and black and white and special effects ... and it was like 4,000 with my albums (for 100-125 pics) and we needed 3 parent ablums but those are going to be digital also but not scrapbook style and each parent pics their own book. That price includes the DVDs too.

We got a pacakge so with the DJ (we are getting special effects, like the gobo ball with our initals and the plasma screens), Photo and Video it was 6,000

Edited to add: my photo package also includes thank you cards, an 11 x 14 and a 8 x 10. 4 DVDs , party favors from the DJ and some few extras.

$4200 for a photog only does seem high to me. We are paying around $5k for photo, video, albums, etc. You can definitely do better. We are using Duet and they have packages for <$5k.

I totally agree. We went with Deja Vu and we got photo and video for $5K. My album is going to have 75 pictures in it!

Re: I can't believe...

that is not just your RH... all RH require that any vendor you work with fax them their proof of insurance. They ones that they recommned, your hall already has their insurance on file. They usually have other vendors on file too if they are used often. You should double check with them to make sure that they dont already have it .. save yourself some extra work

plus, you never want to work with a vendor that doesnt have insurance!

Re: I can't believe...

I am paying about 3k for my album, 2 parents albums, 8x10's, 5x7's, 100 thank you card pics, and engagement photos. I have one photog for 10 hours and I don't have to pay for a plate for them at the reception as per their manager/ Check out Glenmar Studio's in Roslyn Village in LI. They're super nice too.

my album wasnt even like real pics, they were pics that were going to be printed on some cardboard like thing. I was just asking for regular albums, nothing fancy.[/QUOTE

The albums they showed you were digital. I too like the traditional look. The price is about average. Did you go to Patken?
