Wow- that is absolutely insane. That is such a sad story! I'm so teary. I absolutely believe that dog knew those were your things- their sense of smell is profoundly strong, and I don't think those scents ever completely fade. I think that dog loved you, and was probably very comforted. Amazing story, and I think it was very kind of your ex's mom to tell you about it.
