Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

Hey all,

Congrats to all of you!!

I'm getting married in July and have absolutely nothing planned!

The only thing i have booked is the venue which is in NJ.

Here are the vendors im thinking about getting. Any info on them would be great!!

Photo- Events capture
Video- Orange films
Food- Moghul
DJ- Shahid from rose events
Decor-??? I've heard shadi paradise is great and so is elegant affaris.
I have no one for make up/ hair/ mendhi.

I actually got my outfits from india. I know Ginnis boutique in hicksville is expensive but she could custom make an outfit.

I checked out stylish events for mandap rentals. It was the cheapest quote so far. But I didn't check out fern n decor

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

My hindu wedding is in 6 weeks...and my 'real' wedding is in November... I have my bridal saree and all the clothing, but I don't have someone to do the henna or my hair. Any suggestions? It has to be reasonably priced as FH's parents are paying for all of this and don't have much money - we are only doing the ceremony for his side of the family, no reception or anything.

The cheapest quote I got was from naz beauty...they are sisters that do hair and makeup....they work with a henna artist as well. The henna artist has really good prices compared to what I have seen.

I don't even have a vague idea of what pricing is - let alone good pricing - so any info you have is greatly appreciated!! I've never been to anything like this before (I'm a white jewish girl lol) and don't know what to expect.

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

It depends what kind of henna you are doing...are you doing intricate/going up past the wrist? If you are doing something like that it ends up being around $250+ for palms and outside of hands. The girl that they work with charges something like $150. I know her name is samsara but I do not have her contact info. You can ask naz beauty for her contact info.

Indian hairstylist are expensive about $200+ and thats because they also doing the dressing and draping of the saree.

I am using singhar by Ayesha and she is charging $650 for hair/makeup/dressing. I know it sounds like a lot but she is one the best in the industries and I don't want to settle lol.

Nazbeauty charges about $400 for hair and makeup and dressing.

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

I know a girl who used the 'famous' Nina Doshi. She charged over $1000. OOOFFFFFFF! But , I will admit...the girl looked amazing. (Although she's a gorgeous girl to begin with)

For those who are using Moghul... did you try to bargain with them? Chand Palace's $35 menu offers SOOO much more food. I don't mind paying the 35 pp... but I'd like them to throw in some extras

I've looked into Stylish Events and I've looked into Fern n decor -- amazing mandaps

Photography -- I really like Ajit Singh photography... he seems to be more photojournalistic (as opposed to House of Talent's modern flair)

DJ -- I've been to weddings with both DJ Sharad and Rose Entertainments --- both amazingg. How's Bollywood DJ ?

I'm trying to book all my vendors before residency starts... bc bye-bye wedding planning and bye-bye having a life haha

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

Hello Ladies!!

Congrats to all the brides!!!! I'm on the planning process too and it's driving me up the wall but can't wait!!!!

If any of you girls are looking for a makeup artist...you must contact Rose Kapoor from Glamorous Makeup.
I had a trial with her and she did an amazing job! Airbrush makeup with all the works and she's super sweet. She listens to everything you want and delivers. Not pushy like some other makeup artist. Her email address is [email protected]

I got my hair and drapping from another lady. I didn't want to have the same person doing makeup, hair and drapping. I feel they would rush everything and not do it right.

My wedding venue is at the Long Island Hyatt. Can't wait!! If anyone needs any more vendors, let me know...I have a list and a book.

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

Hey girls! So I got married 3.5 months ago and it was amazing! We had sooo much fun and everything turned out beautifully!!!!
I'm writing with my recommendations of the vendors I used. I have to say I had a lot of things go wrong on my day but it was only noticeable to the ppl that were involved in my wedding planning. The guests thought everything turned out beautiful.
I dont think anyone should go through what my husband and I did on our wedding day from the moment we woke up.

1. Venue: I had my wedding and reception at Marriott in Melville, LI I would never recommend this place to anyone. Think twice before booking with them. The place is nice and in pictures and video it looks amazing but the amount of stress they gave us was absurd! On the day of the wedding they cheated me on the salons I was promised and overbooked the morning so I got a smaller space for my wedding. There were things included in our contract that we never got and that we payed for such as ice sculptures. No one from the Marriott staff knew what was going on the day of the wedding and we went through so much to make it perfect. Our banquet manager, Jasmine, was horrible!!!! From the beginning she was irresponsible.

2. Madaps: we went with Stylish Events. They were reasonably priced, however, theres a mandap in NJ that was a lot cheaper but we didnt go with them because they are new to the business and my husband didnt want any surprises for the day of. I forgot the name of the one in NJ but it was cheaper just do searches online for NJ vendors. Stylish Events also got a few things wrong for the day of including the bridal bouquet. They got the reception chairs wrong as well but they did go to their warehouse and had it set before the reception started. The centerpieces were nice but it wasnt as we talked out. However, they did come through with everything we noticed and got things done so no one else would notice. I also felt like I was reiterating myself to them and I had a word document printed out for them on exactly what I wanted with the actual pictures and they still got it wrong. I would still recommend them because it was reasonably priced and when we told them that 'this was not what we had spoken about' they did seem like they were concerned and tried their best to fix the problem.

3. Makeup and Hair: i went with Neha Tulli shes from NJ for makeup and she used Jassi who is from Staten Island for my hair. They did an amazing job on the entire bridal party. I had Neha bring an extra person for sari draping which I was charged per drape however, I was extremely disappointed because the extra lady took an hour plus on each person which was crazy! In the end, my family was draping each other which is not what I paid for! So if you go with her just tell her you dont want the extra person for the draping. Jassi does a good job on sari draping and she did mine.

4. Cake: I went with Franchesco Bakery in Hicksville, LI. The cake was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Caterer: I went with Diwan Restaurant in Port Washington, LI. The main guys name is Bobby. The food was delicious we didn't get one complaint about the food. Everyone enjoyed it. However, he cooked less then what we had told him to on one dish (noodles) for lunch. It ran out and not everyone got a chance to try it. But ppl who did have the noodles loved it!

6. Photo/video: I went with House of Talent. They did a great job!

I hope this helped all the future brides!

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum

Sorry girls, I just remembered I left out two things:

7. Mehndi: I used a small salon on Hillside ave its right across from the nursing home on 182nd street (I think its called Sona Beauty). She had someone come to my house and the lady did a great job! Its a risk because you dont get to meet the person beforehand but they did a good job. She only charged me $100 for both arms and legs. Which was the cheapest I found.

8. DJ: We went with Raj Entertainment. We used Sagar as our MC and I dont remember the DJs name. Def. did a great job. Our guests were on the dance floor from the beginning to the end! No one left after dinner ppl continued to dance!!!!!

Best of luck to all!

Congratulations on your wedding! I'm really sorry that you had to deal with a lot of stress from some of your vendors on your wedding day, but I'm sure your day was amazing nonetheless! Thank you so much for the review, it's actually really helpful, as I was looking at some of the vendors you mentioned. If you have any pics that you're willing to post, I would love to see them. I wish you both the best and many many many years of wedded bliss!!
