Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
im also new to this site and I'm from 1queensI'm getting married this August 28, 2011, I'm looking at reception halls in long Island where i can have the ceremony and reception, i heard the Hyatt in in LI offers Indian food, also green tree in New Rochell offers out side caterers and they have a kitchen for them use they also have a water view
the beach club has an amazing caterer which they don't change extra for and they are by lake Ronkonkama beautiful venue but they want a 150 or more guess also the venetian needs 150 or more and they are on the water very beautiful
the water view has acc for indian weddings and they do 1 event at a time also they have a water view
if you want a water view check out captain bills in bayshore they are very affordable and they want a part of 150 or more and they have a hall away from the restaurant and away from everything with a wooden dance floor and amazing view font let the name turn you away i think the hall is called bay view it has its own parking lot and everything separate and intimate
i have a small part 100 guess
i need some help on where would go to but Indian dresses because i don't want to wear a wedding dress at all so I'll be doing the sari and the lengha
please help

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
Hey , thanks for the advice! I will look into that for sureHonestly, as for outfits go... I think I'm gonna go to the dulhan expo. They have such unique outfits there.... and that way we can get an idea of which saree/lehenga stores we want to check out. The next one is in the first week of march. Ladies -- bring your men and let's go! I saw pictures of last year's expo... and there are such a large variety of outfits to choose from.

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
Hi Sorry for the late response I havent had time to go on this site....soo im gonna do my best to respond to everything....
ndeokinanan: as far as finding outfits you can try Oak Tree Road in NJ and Jackson Heights in Queens. Also, there are a bunch of indian stores in Bellerose, Queens along Hillside Ave. I know hicksville also has a lot of stores.
Im sorry I can't help out exactly where the stores are but these are good options.
I think you can also do stuff online and have it shipped to you.
alwayslight: So I chose Melville Marriott because we liked what they offered. They have a whole bunch of rooms so even though its at the same place I'm using multiple diff. rooms. I am using the atrium for the cocktail hour, lunch will be in the downstairs room and then wedding and reception upstairs.
I went to visit Huntington (I cant remember the if it was Marriott, Sheraton, or Hyatt) but had a horrible experience. The person that was showing us around she didnt seem to interested. Also the cocktail hr was gonna be in their atrium but it was open to everyone which I didnt like. I didnt want random ppl walking by in their shorts and flip flops. Also, their reception area wasnt that great. The carpeting was old and didnt like it.
There is also a Mariott in Uniondale but that was booked for my date so you can try that too.
I did not know Bill left!!!!! We have been getting emails from a lady and she seems helpful but they never once told us Bill left. I havent really had much contact with them right now, I leave it to my fiancee... :)
once i get back from India I will contact them to go over things but I will inquire about Bill.
It's weird that they havent contacted you. I mean they are always in and out of their office but within a couple of days they call/email us back. Did you book with them already or is this the initial step?
I liked the Sterling a lot. I've been to many weddings there and I think its very affordable but the big room was booked and the smaller room was too small for me thats why I didnt go with them.
Someone also mentioned the Venetian. My cousin got married there and it is gorgeous!
Did you guys choose a mehndi artist yet? I am still looking :( and how bout that cake???? i know some of you said the place provides the cake but mine doesnt. Any suggestions?

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
alwayslight- i know sumit personally (he is in charge of the entire dulhan expo) and i was also one of the vendors for makeup artistry.honestly...the outfits are not that great, they don't have that many and it's more for fashion...nothing really looks bridal. i would not go back...but you should go for the experience. they have tons of dj/makeup/and photography vendors

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
hmmm.... so many decisions... I'm going to see a bunch of RH this week! My FH loves the pictures of Leonards, but I literally live 10 minutes away from there (and have been to SO many functions there as well). I wanted something a bit further away, just so I feel like i'm not getting married in my backyard lolanyway -- how's everything else going for u ladies??

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
all the indian boutiques over here are way too overpricedthis weekend i'm going to check out the white wedding dress for the reception (going to davids bridal)
for the indian outfit, i am going to check out jackson heights first and then new jersey probably in may. i know exactly what i want.
is the sherwani too big or small...i would not worry too much (alterations can usually do wonders)

Re: Indian 'desi' Wedding Forum
no it was too small.... :( theres no room to let it outso I had to ship it back to India and ask my uncle to go back to the store to get the right size and mail it back to me. Hopefully, it all gets done in a timely manner
good luck with shopping for ur dresses! what kind of indian dress do u want?
