Re: Is it worth...

We are splurging on the photographer because I think that's really important. We picked a guy who we love but is a little pricey. And also a band because we want live music.

I think photographer is DEFINITELY worth splurging on.
I think a fancy cake and invitations are not worth splurging on.

ITA with you here. A lot of people don't even eat the cake, and people will just end up tossing the invitations so i am not planning on upgrading my cake or spending a lot on invitations.

Re: Is it worth...

I think the sax/percussionist was worth splurging on. I am still hearing rave reviews about him. He was amazing. IMO, the invites weren't worth spending much on, so I went as low as possible without looking like garbage-about $250. Mid range on the photo and low end on video is what we choose.

Re: Is it worth...

We splurged on the RH and the photographer. Those were the most important to us.

Re: Is it worth...

we're splurging, but it depends on what is important. just remember i know most dont think its worth it to splurge on invites, but i think they set the tone of the wedding.

Re: Is it worth...

Photographer is the big one to splurge on if you are going to on anything.

Biggest waste of my time and MONEY: bathroom baskets. I wish I never put them together.

Splurge on the RH (that makes ahuge difference), as well as music and photography.

I'm trying to save as much as I can on flowers, especially centerpieces. I never notice a CP when I go to a wedding.

My grandma says the only time people think about the CPs is when they try to figure out whos taking it home!

ITA! All things that make the wedding an experience. I'm actually trying to do beachy themed centerpiece (read NO flowers!) to save.

Re: Is it worth...

Photography and RH!!!!
Bu that's MO. Other people might think that the video or the band/DJ are what are most important. It depends on what is most important to you about your day (besides marrying the love of your life )
I think most girls wrote photography because those (besides your video) are the memories of your day that last forever.

Re: Is it worth...

The photographer and music should be a splurge. With photos of your day, they can't be redone or replaced so take your time a pick a photographer that you like. With music, having a live band can really make all the difference, they should be lovely and original and can get your crowd really into dancing.

No need to splurge on cake, invitiations, ceremony programs or favors. I've been to a couple of weddings that didn't give out favors and the only reason I knew was because I was in the wedding party and the bride didn't want to spend the money, but none of the other guests even really remember.
