because I am super-pale & my skin actually blended with the super white dress..
.
This is pretty much my reason...
I tried on my dress in 'white' and it washed my Scottish skin out completely! The Ivory...(which only looks ivory next to the white btw) looked WONDERFUL..and had enough coloring to keep me looking NOT like a corpse!
It has nothing to do with being a slut or anything....
in case you wondered....(besides...I have more 'right to white' than most brides i know if that' s the case!)

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
My gown is light ivory and you really can't tell unless you hold it up to something that is white, but it looked better on me then white bc of skin and hair color.

Same here! I think really, really pale women (put it this way--I am almost translucent) don't look too good in true white. Ivory was definitely much more flattering. I am not a huge fan of the whole white/purity symbolism anyway.

Yes, Me also. White looked GROSS on me! When I put on the white, it was like, nice, it's a white wedding dress.. .but when I put on the Ivory, my sister and mom were liike WOW. So I ended up with Ivory. Unless you put it next to a white one, you barely notice it! but I think it looks SOOOOo classy in Ivory!

Silk isn't pure white, so sometimes they call it ivory.
Same here - some materials don't come in pure white....silk and some satins just come in the 'natural' color - they don't dye it or anything.... Mine didn't even come in pure white because of that.
BTW - Jillbean, I wouldn't even think about it, your dress is so pretty! :) Plus I think with the purple flower, white is probably even better.![]()
awwwww thank you so much!!! that is so sweet of you ... i am getting so worried
i haven't seen it in a while and i am having second thoughts listening to some other brides on here having second thoughts
it gets me thinking
my dress is silk tafetta but it says it is white???? hmmmm maybe it is very white
it sure looked white to me

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
ivory looked much better against my skin then white. my mom wore an ivory dress for the same reason.many dresses are not truly white white because of the fabric that they are made as well.

A huge white gown looked terrible on me especially with my skin tone...ivory was the ONLY choice for me.

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
same reason as everyone else - I'm pale, have red hair, and had absolutely no intention of tanning before the wedding. Oh, and I'm no virgin

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
I tried the dress on it both white and ivory. The white washed me out completely (and I have a medium skin tone) and did not flatter what-so-ever whereas the ivory was very flattering with my skin tone. I like the look of the dress much more and felt it brought out the detail. Plus - I think it's kinda romantic for my September wedding.

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
I never thought about ivory until I tried on a gown in ivory and fell in love. I have medium skin tone. Not too pale, not too dark and it just looked so nice. Ivory also looks nice with very light gold beaded accents.

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
ok, I find this interesting.I am pale too ( see avatar
) & I thought the white looked fine. My problem with ivory/light beige in general is usally that it blends with my skin tone. I guess maybe its the the pale pale yellow undertones. ( except my face - just my face- has pinkish overtones
) I never know if I'm a cool or a warm.I don't think I tried on any light ivories, but I tried on a few ivory ivory ones & combined with the material of the dress it seemed too casual.
A friend of mine had a light ivory & she said the white looked horrid on her ( although her dress seemed white to me) she said, she didn't knwo why, maybe it wa sthred hair. . .I guess she was right. All you red heads seem to prefer ivory.
My dress is organza so I think that makes the white a little softer too.

coloring for me as well.. I am a redhead!
Me too! My dress also has a lot of gold and beige beading, so it lifts my pale skin.

Yeah, Redhead with pale skin here. They used to call me Casper and I am the lightest skinned person I know.
For the record - and no offense to any of the lovely ivory wearing ladies here - I DON'T LIKE ivory. It's just a pale yellow to me, and it doesn't work for me. I was going with white no matter what, and didn't even bother trying anything on in ivory. The white looks gorgeous on me, I'm not going to tan because I like my complexion the way it is. There's enough pink to my complexion (and in my makeup, LOL) to compensate for any 'washing out' from the white, which wasn't really an issue anyway.
So I will stand proudly as a Redhead who is wearing White and looking GORGEOUS on her wedding day!

Then again, only 1/3 of the world's population says I'm a redhead (Long Story) so maybe this is all a figment of my imagination. Who Knows?!

Re: Just curious....why ivory and not white????
I agree with a lot of the girls. I looked sort of scary in stark white. I'm Irish and pale (but proud
) Ivory was just a little softer for my skin tone. White does look gorgeous on a lot of people with a tan or who just aren't a pale as I am

Maybe the yellow of ivory dresses clashes with the pink in our skin tones? I don't know, I'm all lost. Itihnk I have yellow & pink tomes. I have such an awful time buying make up too.
I thought more pale girls would prefer white. I agree with fashionhag, that from her picture, I think she'd look great in ivory.
I would have thought the dark skinned girls would have preffered ivory more than the pale girls.
So who looks good in white? Just us pink skinned girls?

My dress is off white (between white and ivory). True white dresses really washed me out and made me look almost sickly. Yes, I'm another pale skinned one!Welcome New Vendors
