Can I say that I'm more apt to blame that on NEW YORK as a city than on the team?
Since I have moved to NY, I have never encountered SUCH rudeness, cynicism, etc. as I have here. People here ask you questions but don't wait for the answers!
FH's friends are all amazed at how NICE I am, and they all say it's because I didn't grow up here.
I'm not saying all NYers are rude, but I will say that the look of surprise on the face of the man for whom I held the door this morning at Starbucks says a LOT.
I'm gonna respectfully disagree. If I wanted, I can go to a Met game wearing another team's jersey.. and not be harassed.
Go to Yankee stadium with a Piazza jersey on.. and you will hear loads of crap.. and if you are suicidal.. go out and try to sit in the bleachers.. you'll leave or need the cops to bail you out by the second inning. Scary.

Princess.. you're pretty cool like Felicia and a few other Yankee fans on here.. but you are in a distinct minority when it comes to Yankee fans not bashing the Mets or any other team.
Might I remind all of the Texas Rangers fan who got the $hit beat out of him in the bathroom during a playoff game a few years ago or the Bleacher Creatures. (A bunch of low-life drunks.)
I'll rest my case.![]()
![]()
Thanks for the compliment, OctGroom .. you already know that I like a FEW Mets fans, yourself included (and of course I'm marrying a Mets fan, so I like some more than others!)
Listen there are bad fans rooting for any team out there .. I do not condone the behaviour of some Yankee fans at ALL. You are right, they can be brutal . But I've never encountered a more hostile crowd than BOSTON fans (you are right , PrincessRose .. they are the REAL ENEMY).
There are low-life drunks sitting in bleachers in every stadium across the country .. and if we are 'playing tennis' here, I've known Mets fans to bash other teams with the best of them!! My experience in the bleachers at Shea was SHOCKING last year
It boils down to any fans' loyalty to their team, which I must respect wholeheartedly. You will protect & defend them 'till the bitter end .. just do it with a smile, not your fists!

You've got to be kidding me? Mets fans are just as bad as Yankee fans .. don't kid yourself. I don't disagree with the portrayal os some fans in the Yankee bleachers .. but don't put up the false image of Mets fans being saintly and all-accepting .. that is SO NOT THE CASE (even my FH will agree with this)
I saw people with Yankee jerseys in Shea (with 3 small children) and they were harrassed to NO END! It was BAD (and this was a Saturday afternoon game, FAMILY DAY no less!)

I think it's just sad, really, that people get so VIOLENT. It's just SPORTS. I know I wouldn't care if someone went to a Yankee game wearing a Boston Shirt (although I might make fun of him to my Mom).
People do love to provoke Yankee Fans though. Like yesterday - the universe rejoiced because we lost! One guy overheard some Yankee fans talking about reasons the Yanks might have lost (bad pitching, poor base running, whatever), and then bitched to me about How Yankee fans can't just accept that they lost because the other team played better. But you know that ANY team's fans would try to figure out why their team lost.
I'm NEVER for violence (even against my FMIL). But you have to admit that if the Yankees didn't win so much or have a huge payroll, no one would care if Yankees fans over thought their team's loss.

I'm not going to debate what you saw..
If you saw it, I believe you.
I can only tell you what I've seen--
My experience has been.. I have been to numerous Met games.. and I only remember one time when someone said to a Yankee fan.. 'Get that Jeter jersey off' where it was not meant in a friendly way.
I guess my presence there just brought out the best in everyone!

While I agree that Yankee fans can be a little harsh to the fans of opposing teams, I have to respectfully disagree that Met fans are innocent. My brother, who is a die hard Met fan who HATES the Yankees, has actually admitted to me that he and his friends start trouble during subway series and when the Braves are in town. It may not be as harsh as in Yankee stadium but trust me...it happens in Shea.

Truth be told.. the D-Rays played better yesterday and deserved to win..
The Yanks played better today.. and deserved to win.. No debating that.
Here's two instances of strange but true behaviour I have seen..
I have a friend in Boston.. he's a cop there who's a Yankee fan.. originally from NYC.
I used to saty for a week every summer up there.. it was cheap because I stayed at his place... he knew lots of girls.. and we ate Taco Bell all the time. Ah the memories...
The Red Sox are home playing the Yankees.. it's an afternoon game and the whole city seems to be at Fenway. We were passing by the ballpark with my BM and I have my Mets jersey on.. and I got the strangest looks.
I mean they're BoSox fans.. and they're playing the Yanks.. and here comes a Met fan?
I truly wonder what they were thinking.. was I a disguised Yankee fan trying to rub in the 1986 WS again? Or was I a NY'er who hated the Yanks and wanted to root against the Yanks? I guess I'll never know.
Case#2--
Not baseball related --
Out on the NorthFork this weekend.
Driving on Route 25 East.. had to stop to let two teenagers cross the street.
They said 'Thank You' to us as they crossed and meant it in a very polite and friendly way.. ***???? LOL I'm still shocked!

This is why I refuse to go to Yankee Stadium to see the Mets play the Yanks. Not to say that the Met fans are better, but I have seen people who have gone to the stadium to support the opposition unmercifully tormented, with no regards to children or women nearby. It was disgusting. And it's mainly these no-class bleacher creatures who have nothing better to do than to sit home and think up dumb chants.

I went to a Mets-Yankee game at Shea.. that was OK. No prob there. Sat right next to a guy in a Winfiled jersey. Die-hard and I could respect the guy for that.
My friend went to see the Mets play the Yanks at the Stadium (and he's a bouncer!) and a Met fan.. and he said he wouldn't say anything because there were just too many crazies.
And like you said.. over the top with no respect to any one with kids, etc.

In order to lose, you have to be beaten fairly in a competitive match up
Buying all the competition up isn't winning

Re: Let's go Yankees
Don't blame the Yankees for the fact the Mets bigwigs waste their income.Maybe if the Mets played better, they'd win more games. And a LOT of our CORE players come up through the farm system, like the Great Jeter who you all like to bash just to have someone to bash.
At least OctGroom is humorous and friendly in his criticisms, and can accept the fact that his team just isn't playing well right now, rather than bashing another team who has just as much income but spends it more wisely.
Please, if the Mets had the opportunity to get some of these big money players, don't kid yourself by thinking they wouldn't.

fyi - these 'fans' are also found at Shea stadium during the subway series games. If you are at the games then you would know. I know, cuz I am there. They are no worse than the yankee fans...
And to comment on the bleacher creatures...maybe no-class, but true fans. Some things I don't agree with how they act, especially since they are the reason for it becoming a non-alcohol section.
